Atmospheric Science, Second Edition, is the long-awaited update of the classic atmospheric science text, which helped define the field nearly 30 years ago and has served as the cornerstone for most university curricula. Now students and professionals alike can use this updated classic to understand atmospheric phenomena in the context of the latest discoveries, and prepare themselves for more advanced study and real-life problem solving. This latest edition of Atmospheric Science , has been revamped in terms of content and appearance. It contains new chapters on atmospheric chemistry, the Earth system, the atmospheric boundary layer, and climate, as well as enhanced treatment of atmospheric dynamics, radiative transfer, severe storms, and global warming. The authors illustrate concepts with full-color, state-of-the-art imagery and cover a vast amount of new information in the field. Extensive numerical and qualitative exercises help students apply basic physical principles to atmospheric problems. There are also biographical footnotes summarizing the work of key scientists, along with a student companion website that hosts climate data; answers to quantitative exercises; full solutions to selected exercises; skew-T log p chart; related links, appendices; and more. The instructor website features: instructor’s guide; solutions to quantitative exercises; electronic figures from the book; plus supplementary images for use in classroom presentations. Meteorology students at both advanced undergraduate and graduate levels will find this book extremely useful. Full-color satellite imagery and cloud photographs illustrate principles throughout Extensive numerical and qualitative exercises emphasize the application of basic physical principles to problems in the atmospheric sciences Biographical footnotes summarize the lives and work of scientists mentioned in the text, and provide students with a sense of the long history of meteorology Companion website encourages more advanced exploration of text topics: supplementary information, images, and bonus exercises Review: Atmospheric Science - Excellent introductory text! Review: Good introductory textbook and reference - Good book for becoming familiar with some of the basics of atmospheric science. Also a useful book if you want to look for different ways to explain things to students when teaching on the topic (for me an atmospheric circulation section I was teaching as part of an Oceanography class).

A classic work given a wonderful face-lift
A beautifully updated edition of a classic. The first "Wallace and Hobbs" became a classic work in atmospheric science nearly 40 years ago. This 2nd edition is expanded in many areas and is now full of the most beautiful illustrations and photographic images. A crucial textbook that also makes a great coffee-table book. If you are interested in the atmosphere, weather or climate, I cannot recommend it too highly.

Fantastic!
Great overview of the atmospheric sciences (especially as an intro for radiation). I used a Meteorology Today book in undergrad, but it ended up not being too useful outside of the specific class I got it for. This book, I have used in 3 of my graduate classes and has even helped a bit in my research.

This was a very mathemtically oriented book, which I liked
I'm a retired chemist and I found this a very good book for someone like me who hasn't studied Atmospheric Science. I believe it is very faithful to the current understanding and method of studying Atmospheric Science. However the Climate Science, especially the Mathematical Treatment of Climate Sensitivity was not explained very well. And in fact the math doesn't really work if you examine the equations closely. I'm confident this is how they teach it, but if you plug in other values for feedback factors the answers blow up and make no sense.

Just Perfect
Perfect book for my daughter getting her masters in Meteorology. She said it is the book most referenced throughout her studies. Since she studies 24/7 that tells me that it is well written with the information necessary. She said it will remain part of her reference library throughout her career.

Excellent text for learning meteorology
I am a retired scientist who never studied meteorology until now. This book is absolutely perfect for readers who prefer to see the equations and have at least some background in the physical sciences.

praticamente perfetto, completo. per leggerlo occorrono basi di calcolo infinitesimale ma non di più

BLANK PAGES
This book looks like a sure 4 or 5 star snag, but I am compelled to deduct half of the stars because half of the pages are blank. It goes: blank where page 1 would be page 2/3 blank where 4/5 would be page 6/7 there blank where 8/9 would be 10/11 there blank where 12/13 would be and so on! How is that even a thing?
