I already understand I need to improve my writing skills, I do not need to be convinced, put down, or generally told how bad I already conceive. I bought the book, obviously I already agree with that. I took the author's writing style as a bit, no wait, a lot pompous and felt as I read the book I was constantly being looked down upon. It makes it hard to have faith in the words, when they surrounding by disdainful decorations. Of course, that is only my opinion, I'm sure the author would gladly tell me my opinion does not garner importance. PS, it does not help to add your own views of politics or religion when you are giving instructions.

This book, from beginning to end, is without direction. There's no roadmap telling the reader what to expect; there's no warning before topics change; there are few headings; its paragraphs aren't uniformly spaced. Although the author delivers good information, he doesn't establish his authority on English, or logic, before delivering flurries of rules. This book could be excellent with some tidying. As is, it's a difficult read.

I loved reading this book. It was not too complicated to understand and it made many modern references and examples along with the classics we all love.I bought this book to understand how to make a better argument now that I'm a college student again. It will be one of my many reference books I will use. The title says it all - if you want to speak or write clearly this book is clearly for you.

Very good. To the point with lots of good advice. Recommend getting Strunk & White "Elements of Style" and "The Elements of Style Workbook" to complement this book.

I incorporated many of the techniques talked about in this book in my speeches and I must say they were helpful. It also is a good reminder of the basics, which I often neglect. I rated four stars only because the author has a choppy and scattered writing style which made the book harder to read then it should have been.

Not a bad book, but rather brief. The take-home point (for me) is to stop trying to rely on logic to win arguments -- focus instead on how you can get the listener to like what you're saying.

I’m a youth pastor and I’ve never read a book like this before. I learned new things and was also given clear language to explain things I knew to be true from trial and error. This book has now been passed around (and appreciated by) our senior church leadership. It’s a quick and helpful read. I recommend it.

A great rhetoric to study; worthy for its brevity and its thoroughness; and, to top it off, a handy outline at the conclusion of the book. Useful and entertaining.

Definitely thought provoking; I learned considerably; but...the author should have provided more real world examples to understand better the application. The examples were too small and few; but at the end the author is not misleading; the book IS called The. ELEMENTS of Rethoric. So it’s foundational.But yes; bottom line...buy it, read it, Mark it!
