I’m a 7 years old and I like it but at the end it is not funny any more but in the beginning and middle is really funny

Wonderful book, fresh and smart. Pure joy. Some jokes will not be understood by younger kids, but my 7 yr old, understands enough to really enjoy these books.

My 8 and 9 year old boys laughed out loud throughout this book. Getting them to read is a challenge and they couldn’t wait to read this book - so I ordered all the Mr. Gum books!

My 6 year old is loving this book! Now, he's an advanced reader so I wouldn't expect every 6 year old to be able to read it, but nonetheless he has been glued to it every day since I bought it for him. He especially enjoys the little jokes in the book like a chapter about having a cup of tea consisting of one sentence where Mr Gum has a cup of tea, as well as the joke about blank pages at the end of the book, where you are told in many successive pages that these are blank pages and there is not a secret story at the back of the book and to stop looking for one, you eventually find the secret story. I'm almost certain that once he has finished this book, I will be buying more Mr Gum books (this is his first). Highly recommended!

I bought my grandson this book for Christmas. He’s 7 and a very good reader and read it in two sittings. Two chapters one night, the rest the following night. I’m delighted to have found a book to get him as enthusiastic about reading as I am. His dad is on a mission to get him the next one today!!

This was recommended to us for our 6 year old boy. He loves it so much that we bought the box set. He laughed like a drain all the way through and will randomly quote bits of it and ask if '..we remember that bit where...'. Since reading this Mr Gum book (and the next 3 in the series) we have recommended it to another 6 year old boy, bought it as a birthday present and recommended it to an 8 year old girl. As an adult, once you get your head around the surreal humour and tone of the book you will laugh too!

As my kids love this so much, my DD gave her copy to her BFF, so I had to buy another in order for her to read it for the fifth time! Absolutely brilliant for ages 7+ to 12!

We enjoyed this book, but at one point (I won't spoil, but it's to do with the dog) my son was in tears. It was a shame that it upset him so much - and flicking through the next chapter, there was no way to reassure him. All was okay in the end though. Just one fraught night of crying!
