This is the album Dwight Yoakum fans have been waiting for! Outstanding. There's an excellent mix of rockabilly and ballads to please any of us who consider him the best in new country. Let those wannabes keep singing about getting drunk and driving tractors: this is the real deal. I can't stop listening.

Rock & Roll Heart
No need to go into endless detail about this album, if you're a Dwight Yoakam fan you pretty much know what to expect, and he doesn't disappoint with this new collection of songs. Suffice to say that this is another masterful effort from Dwight, one of the most consistently great recording artists in the business. As other reviewers have noted, there is more of rock edge to some of these new songs, but that should frighten any of Dwight's longtime fans. This is still the familiar twang, country-fied music that he's always played, but with a pleasing rock and roll heart. In other words, these tunes are full of energy and emotion, blazing from the speakers at full throttle. It doesn't hurt that Dwight has an ace band backing him up throughout this album. Great sound and some truly great new tunes too. Plus, Dwight still sounds fresh and inspired. Time has not diminished his enthusiasm nor the quality of his music. The CD comes with a 12-page booklet that includes lyrics to all of these songs, as well as the full lineup of musicians who play on each track. Highly recommended for any Dwight Yoakam fan!

Second Hand Heart Is a First Rate Hit!
After several years, Dwight Yoakam proved he hadn't lost a thing with,"Three Pears." Now with his follow up in less than three years,"Second Hand Heart," proves he isn't losing steam anytime soon! Not only has he gone back to what made him who he is today, but every song is a winner here. If you don't believe me, go see his show he's currently playing on tour as we speak. Mr. Yoakam is 58 years old now(he'll be 59 in October), and he is proving to be as relevant now as he was when he started out. He is proving on the road that live music is alive and well these days and is a true ambassador for it. As we speak, I am holding two tickets to catch a show December 5th, i'm just sad to say it took me 31 years to see the man perform, but I'm sure it'll be worth the wait. What was the deciding factor you might ask? "Second Hand Heart" convinced me to go see him before the day comes that I can't. If you're a country music fan or Dwight Yoakam fan, this is a must own in your CD or album library.

FIVE FULL LISTENS 5 STARS!!!!!
This is the Dwight Yoakam bad ass sounding BUCK/ELVIS/DWIGHT laced with some awesome killer of just what the doctor ordered what a lot of us DY fans have been hoping for a long time! His band is amped up big time with Eugene Edwards and Brian Whelan on guitars! This is Dwight at his best, and I can only imagine how this baby would sound live! 8 originals and 2 covers and just check out "Man Of Constant Sorrow" holy sh%&! This is the DY I have been craving big time! (of course a cover and the originals are as good or better) The lyrics are classic DY and yes we get a lot of that classic Dwight "TWANG" but we what we really get is an album full of music that stands next to the best he has ever made!!!!! (Added comments) After many more listens, this album flows like nobody's business, the music just starts to rock out big time after the first half and just compliments the entire sound from start to finish. WOW!

A rocker
Dwight said in an interview he wanted to recapture sounds and energy of his earliest bands back in high school and this new band is a perfect fit. Pete Anderson is always missed but these guys tear it up, lots of state of the art rockabilly licks and Dwight is in fine form with powerful delivery. High energy rock and roll with a tinge of country as only he can do. There a couple of very nice ballads -- Dreams of Clay is a stunner -- and nice tributes to Merle and Buck. This one will make you grin.

and I love it. There's nothing I can say to clean ...
So I wrote that review below shortly after receiving and listening to this highly anticipated CD. Today I took a road trip...rolled down the windows, popped this little gem into my stereo and cranked up the sound. What was I thinking the first time I listened to this CD? Boy was I ever wrong. This is top-notch Dwight Yoakam, and I love it. There's nothing I can say to clean up my first review, except there's nothing like some fresh air, change of scenery and good tunes to help me get my head OOM_SS!!I'm a huge fan of Dwight Yoakam, but I'm sorry to say that this piece just isn't speaking to me. Although you are a superb artist, you need to do some soul searching...I'm just not looking for music that suits the Gilley's crowd. You've got it man. Get after it.

This is a great album, although a little louder and more full ...
This is a great album, although a little louder and more full of raging electric guitar than I expected. Dwight Yoakam exists in some strange in-between world that only he has found, somewhere in the narrow spaces where rock, folk, hillbilly, country and punk almost (but not quite) meet. This is the musical land he inhabits and of which is king. He writes from the heart as evidenced by the title track and sings from the soul as evidenced by every song on the album. He can take you down the trail of bittersweet memories of broken hearts and the hope of trying one more time and he can take the traditional Man of Constant Sorrow to a place it’s never been. In-between the ballads and the fire lives a legendary singer/songwriter.I don’t know that it is my favorite Yoakam album but, then again, I’ve only listened to it once. Think I’ll go taste it one more time.

its Dwight Yoakum. It's 2015. buy it!
I am a super fan. I am always aware of the sharp musical production on Dwight albums. I like how he sticks his voice upfront and you can always hear the trebly twang of his guitars and pedal steel. (Check Dwight Sings Buck). This cd has some great songs on it, but the production is a little too sterile for me. The bass guitar, which gives songs their punch, is too low in the mixes, but if you turn it up good and loud you won't care. No real standout tunes on this for me, but another solid release from my man Dwight. Buy it. It's great!

Oh dear, what has happened to Dwight's country sound?
Am I the only person that thinks this is the worst album Dwight Yoakam has made? I have all of his recordings but his style has changed from the first three or four and the backing is getting louder and away from his hard country sound with fiddles and steel. On this album he is apparently using his road band and they almost drown him out. When I saw him on stage a few years back I thought then that they were loud, so I have not been to see him since. Gone is the real country Dwight of Hillbilly Deluxe, Guitars Cadillacs etc, Gone and Buenas Noches. Please come back to REAL country Dwight!!

All Right Dwight
More rocky than usual but generally a fine album from Mr Yoakam, which grows on you on subsequent listening. Not too sure about his version of "Man of Constant Sorrow". No real standouts but favourite tracks are "In Another World" and "Dreams of Clay", featuring some fine pedal steel from Brian Whelan.
