I can tolerate trace amounts of gluten if I’m having a “good innards day”, and it was fine for me. As mentioned by someone else, the fermentation process may break down whatever tiny bit is in there. As for it being 100% gluten free I wouldn’t trust it… it’s a major brand and would certainly advertise on the label that it was gluten free if it was 100% clean.

Can this take the place of kimchi paste in making kimchi ?

Kimchi is made with gochugaru, a flake/powder made from Chilis. I wouldn't substitute one for the other. You can find a good recipe for kimchi on maangchi.com, she would tell you what makes a good substitute for various ingredients, but I am pretty sure you can't sub out gochugaru for this. This is more for seasoning dishes, like tteokbokki or soups or bibimbap.
