K9 Sport Sack Plus 2 - Small, Summer Mint - Ideal for Dogs 13-16” Long - Adjustable, Backpack-Style Carrier with Multi-Functional Storage Pack, Thick Shoulder Straps & Padded Back Panel

I bike a lot for transportation and for fun, so when I adopted a dog I was trying to come up with a way to bring her with me on my bicycle. I found that most dog carriers and backpacks are meant for small dogs, maybe 20 lbs max, and she is 38 lbs. Then I found the K9 Sport Sack, and I got the Air Plus because it is the only version rated up to 40 lbs (the Air and the Urban are up to 30). Now I'm glad I did - the detachable storage bag (I don't have it on in the picture) buckles easily on once I have my dog in the backpack and holds everything I need: leash, food, water, bowl, wallet, phone, bike lock, etc. The Large fits her well, but I wouldn't put a bigger dog in it. I'm not sure that every 38-lb dog would fit, either, but she is lean and long-legged, and within the recommended measurements. I definitely struggled the first few times trying to figure out how to get her into it and get the backpack on my pack - fortunately I have a patient dog! In order to get her in, I lay the bag open on the floor, put my hand under her chest/between her front legs to lift her up and feed her front paws through the arm holes, buckle the bag around her neck, then scoop her rear up and tuck her into the bag and zip it. As far as I can tell, she loves riding in it and has her nose in the breeze the entire time. She adjusts herself every now and then and sometimes leans to the side, but she doesn't wriggle at all; even if she did she is secure. The only thing is, she does get quite heavy after a while! It would be awesome if there were some way to add a hip belt like a backpacking backpack has, as having 40 lbs on my shoulders is a lot after a few miles, but I can see why the backpack doesn't have one because even with the size large it sits a little above my hips. Overall this is a great solution, the backpack is well-made and allows me to take my adventure buddy with me!

Fits perfectly for a 13 pound , small breed dog. Happy with this purchase.

My chubby buddy spent 6 years living in a small cage as a breeder at a puppy mill. He will not walk on anything but concrete or indoor surfaces. His desire to walk more than 100 feet is just not there. His companion came from the same place. He will never be kept captive again and is moving non-stop. So taking them for a nature walk has been a challenge. I have tried strollers, but needed something that would go on uneven terrain. This back pack is well built and sturdy. Buster is 20 lbs. I bought medium because of his weight. It is a bit long for him, but I solved that by putting a the pouch that came with the backpack in the bottom. I plan on putting some upholstery foam in the bottom for a permanent fix. They do sell a booster block, I don't plan on buying it. With any backpack, the weight in the bag should be carried on the chest and low back, not the shoulders. This backpack did that, but the chest strap is narrow and cut into the chest near the arm pits. A better design would be to have a dispersive pad to spread the weight out or a larger strap. I will be creating some sort of pad to disperse the weight. I am single and only 5'2". I had to make sure I could get the backpack and Buster on and off of me by myself. I found that if I laid the backpack down and stood Buster on top of it, I could get him into the pack easily; front feet into the holes first, then his back end. I do wish there was a hole for his tail. It wags non-stop. There are great straps to make the pack comfortable and supportive for the dog. Once he was secure, I set the pack up on the butt end. It is easier if you have a bench to do this, but I was able to do it from the ground as well. Once the pack and dog were on their haunches, I was able to haul it up onto me, one shoulder at a time. The weight of my dog was the greater challenge. After a few times doing this we got it done fairly easily. Would I buy it again? Yes. I would like to shout out to the manufacturer to make the chest strap bigger or add a dispersive pad. Oh and, a waist strap could be helpful. Initially the pack swayed back and fort a little, but once the dog settled, that stopped. Would Buster buy it again? Yes, he appeared comfortable and enjoyed looking around. When he got uncomfortable, he started shifting around a bit. At that point, he got out and walked some more. He figured out pretty quickly that this was a cool way to go for a walk. As for his companion Swiffer.... He wants to know if they make a tandem one so he can be carried when he gets tired.

Now for one more update after a summer of use, 9/2/18. I have used this pack every other day all summer long to take long bike rides with a stop at one or even two off leash dog parks to let my dog run free and socialize. I have found that I can also include stops at the store to pick up a couple items to carry back home in the side saddle bags. I leave my dog in the pack to go inside the grocery store, as well as ordering at cafes to take outside and then take the food to eat on the cafe patio or to go to a nearby park to eat. No one has objected to my dog in the pack on my back. Quite the opposite. Dog lovers seem to go bananas over her in the pack. I get lots of positive remarks from other shoppers and passing vehicles on the road as well. My dog stays really calm and very quiet while in the pack. Kind of like a security thing for her. It calms her. So no issues in any way with riding. The pack has withstood the heavy use. I do get very sweaty on my back where the pack rests. I wish for improvements here for better ventilation. The straps do flap and flick about in the wind while riding, so I tuck them into the straps to prevent getting hit in the face of me and my dog. When it was crazy hot out. I would stop at public fountains and get her wet or unzip and pour water over her to wet her down to help cool off. My favorite fountain has no pool and thus allows bikes to ride through the center to get good and wet. If I take her to a river beach, I end up with a very gritty and muddy shoulders and neck where her paws rest. The pack is easy to clean off with a hose rinse. And air drys quickly. My dog does look pretty damn cute riding in the pack. Ok, I am updating this review. I've been used the pack for my pup for 3 weeks. I do wish the straps were padded a bit thicker and that there was a hip belt for weight support onto the hips. But. That said, my dog loves to ride in the pack as I ride my bike to the off leash dog park and around town for erands (as long as she gets to get out of the backpack and run, sniff and play at the off leash dog park for some exercise) We get lots of positive comments too. I also need to add that my bike is set up for sitting upright while riding. And this dog carrier pack works just fine in this position. My pup is only 10 lbs. she likes to hang her head over to one side or the other to watch the world go by but this doesn't affect my balance on the bike in the least. I can't imagine using this pack with a dog while leaning over in a more prone position though. So far, my pup seems to tolerate about a one hour ride on the bike. After that she gets a bit antsy and asks to stop and get on the ground. Also, if your dog gets her feet wet and muddy, consider that you will too where their paws rest on your back. :) Also, I use the extra add on accessory pack to store my heavy duty U bike lock and cable and bungie corded onto onto the back wheel saddle bag rack. A very lightweight rain coat can fit into the accessory pack along with a wallet and keys... I have also taken to bringing my bike into the off leash parks and walking the bike along with my dog and using the kick stand to park the bike when we just hang out with other dogs and their humans. Easier than attempting to lock a bike to a wire fence, which is not at all secure. My first rides with this pack and my dog was to give the pack Three stars because the engineering and construction of this pack could improve a lot. I will say that they did improve on the thickness and padding of the shoulder straps since past reviews I read about how thin the shoulder straps were. Zippers seem sturdy. All the stitching is finished and no loose ends. The pack material seems sturdy and should last. Not as breathable as they claim though. The back of the pack is padded and has some room for venting and breathability. This could improve! My mountain hardware day pack would be a great reference for designing a nice breathable pack resting agains a back. As well as improving the straps, adding a thick high end hip belt and placing the chest strap in the correct place! Geeze! that one thing! Getting choked was not good! and this strap is rendered useless if your dog and gear weigh more than 10 lbs!!! My 10 lb. miniature schnauzer was easy to load into the pack and she goes calm and quiet while riding on my back in this pack. She does fit the size small pack. But the bottom where my dog crouches in a sit position slides and angels onto my back flat instead of staying flat and horizontal to the ground for her back legs to fold into a sit/crouch. Maybe with the block they sell separately, the bottom of the pack would stay flat, but that would make my doh not fit the pack. I bought the pack for bike riding to the dog park. After testing out the dog park bike ride, I would never ever use this pack for carrying a dog over 10 lbs while hiking. The incorrect placement of the chest strap and lack of a good thick hip belt make this pack a hell pack and a hell hike with a heavier dog. Plus you would need a companion to come along and be willing to carry your share of lunch, snacks, water, etc. I also got the detachable accessory pouch. Thinking I would carry the - oh so- damn heavy kryptonite bike lock and cable, leash, dog treats and maybe a light rain jacket? It does fit the u-shaped lock, cable for the front tire, leash. and small dog treat/ball pouch and a small collapsable water bowl. There is a smaller outer pocked for a large smart phone, small wallet and keys. No room for a light rain jacket if it's threatening to rain. I would not choose to carry a dog heavier than 10 lb. My bike lock is super heavy duty and heavy and it added 4 more pounds to the entire pack. There is no way I am going to leave my bike unlocked and unattended at a store or a cafe or park. I live in a town where bike theft is very high. Attaching the accessory pack loaded to the back of the dog inside the pack is cumbersome and not good. If the pouch was just light stuff it would be ok. I had one full 16 oz water bottle in the side pouch. When I put the pack on with the dog and accessory bag packed with bike lock, cable, leash, and water bottles. It was 78 degrees and breezy out. I rode 10 miles total with a stop at the dog park in the middle of the ride.With the accessory pouch attached to the pack, and the chest strap snapped, the chest strap rode up at my neck, no matter how tight or loose I adjusted the shoulder straps, choking me. I had to turn around and ride back to the house, take off the pack and remove the pouch and bungie it to my bike's rear saddle bag rack. Without the extra 4 lb pouch, the chest strap would stay just at my collar bone. So in reference to my really high end day pack that carries about 15 lb max with emergency gear and water bladder, food for a long 20 mile day hike up in the mountains, with really nice and thick padded straps, the chest strap rides at mid chest no problem. That is not the case with this dog pack at all. I choose the light grey color to keep my dog and me cooler knowing that the black, blue or red colored pack would attract more solar heat. There is NO PLACE to store the leash except in the water bottle side pouch? I could bring along a saddle bag but then there is the issue of locking up the bike and no way to keep the saddle bag secure and having to schlep it along on on the walk inside the dog park. This dog pack was easy to leave hanging from one shoulder so the sweat and my shirt could dry out while my pup romped, socialized and played with the other dogs off leash. On the return ride, my pup was hot from playing and I did wet my dog with water before putting her back into the pack for the ride home. I am going to give it one more test try before I decide if its going back.

Bought size M for my Cavalier King Charles (she is thin with long legs) so I could go on my bike with her. My dear pup gets very excited when going out and she moves a lot, so I was looking for something that would secure her the most. With her harness and the way this bag secures her from the front and from the back with the straps, have made my dog stay in the bag despite moving and trying to get out (when seeing birds or other dogs). The straps are comfy and I don't feel pain in my back after using it (the most I have used it continously is ~40mins on my bike). I also bought this model due to the bag attachmemt it has and it has come really really handy. The bag has enough space to carry my dog's leash, water, treats, etc..

The K9 pack is made of high quality material as promised and the written instructions for placement of my dog were explicit and easy to understand. The concept is a good one however, I would not purchase this pack again. Expensive and I probably won't use it beyond my first try. The "practice" photo is cute but the pack is not functional for my puppy. Maybe I should have a smaller pack but I was looking to the future when my 6wk puppy is bigger. On the hiking trail, it was difficult to insert puppy into the pack and it took 2 people (flat surface at home was not difficult). The pack itself is comfortably padded. However, see in the picture how I'm hunched over? I walked that way on the trail to keep her forward enough as the pack was top-heavy (yes, my straps were tight as they could be.) Not comfortable. Since puppy only needed to rest about 1/3 of the 3 mile hike, it was much easier to carrier her in my arms for awhile then let her walk/run until she needed me to carry her again. Maybe a less athletic breed will need this pack, or an old dog. I wasted about $100.00. Anyone want a slightly used K9 sport Sack?

We got this for my 18 pound sheltie so we could take her to more crowded events where she's nervous on the ground. I was SURE she would hate it and flail around inside but she could not be more chill about it. This bag is super simple to use. The biggest struggle is setting her inside with her feet tucked under her but we're getting better at it. I love that the inside flap under the zipper is so large. I don't get any of her long fur caught while zipping her in. I also like the the ability to clip her harness for additional security. The padding makes it nice and comfortable for the human. It takes a little adjusting so she can sit higher up, but again, we're getting the hang of it. It doesn't help that instead of wanting to look over dad's shoulders - she decides to just sit back and hang her head to look behind and to the side lol I also love the velcro on both the bag and the detachable bag for name or message (customized patches available on company website - I got a do not touch patch for now - but she did so great I'll just buy one with her name next) The detachable bag is big enough to put her leash in, a bottle of water, snacks and a few more items, as long as you can handle the additional weight. I would advise practicing with all the clips if you get the detachable bag. We did not and made a mess of things trying to do it while out lol It's super simple though if you take the time to sort it out first. We took her to the farmers market for her first outing on a warmish low 80's day, for about an hour, and she didn't seem to get too warm in there. I'm super happy with this purchase and will take it with me whenever we go out just to have on hand when needed. I'm planning on getting another for my second sheltie. He doesn't need it like she does but I find it super useful in situations where it's safer to be off the ground so they can still come with us. .

I used the size M for my 18 pound 12 year-old Pomeranian. I put foam on the bottom because it was a bit big for him so maybe size S would have worked better. He was walking 9 miles at a time 4 year ago but due to arthritis and right medial shoulder subluxation I started carrying him 1/4 mile away from the house most days and then he usually tried to walk back on his own. A also carried him for 4+ mile walks when we met up with friends for a dogwalk. The backpack was a huge upgrade compared to carrying him although he usually started to fuss his legs after 1-2 miles at which point I'd take him out of the backpack and we'd slowly walk back home together. It was challenging to keep him high up on my back. The strenum strap that came with it kept popping off on one side. I finally used several carabiners connected to each other to pull the straps together on the front and I also tightened the shoulder straps. This made it harder for me to safely get the backpack on and off but it allowed my dog Elvis to be more upright with his parws on muy shoulders. This backpack allowed us to do a couple of 1-2 mile walks every day. A lot of people that we passed would say something once they saw Elvis and how cute he was chilling on my back, saying that he was definitely happy. He was 12 years old but everyone thought he was a puppy. I did lose my beloved dog Elvis on December 8 and now over a month later, I'm still beside myself in pain. I am however happy that I bought this backpack 8 months before his passing as it allowed us to enjoy the outdoors together. For comparison for people trying to decide on sizing, my Pomeranian was: •about 16.5" from collar to top of base of tail when sitting upright •18 pounds •21" chest girth, but a bit wider near the rear 22"

I ordered this bag for our long hikes. I have a 7lb yorkie who has a prior pre injury, so she can’t hike as long ever since. She absolutely loves this carrier! When she’s ready to be picked up, she sits and wait for us to get the back ready and is always excited to go inside. Absolutely love the external bag attachment, great for adding small hiking snacks or equipment. I find there’s a comfortable amount of room for the pups as well. After risking several dog bags, this is by far my favourite and my pup loves this one This most. Very comfortable for your dog!

It's a beautiful backpack for dogs. We originally bought it for our big trip to Italy but unfortunately our pup doesn't love it. We tried on several occasions to get our JRT to sit in her carrier but no go. For us, we had to return it but I know for other's this will be a fantastic way to travel with their pups. It's sturdy, it's beautifully made, lots of room and compartments to put all sort of things. If you've got a pup who will sit and not stand in this backpack, this will be your greatest tool.

Pack does not sit well on back with dog in it. In order to keep it high up the back the shoulder straps must be excruciatingly tight. As an ex serviceman I have used many kinds of pack, including the WWII 45 pack.

I bought one of the packs. I paid the import tax twice on it because I paid the import tax when I bought it on Amazon, and then UPS wouldn't let me have the package until I paid the tax, even though I told them I had paid it. Then when I got the pack home it was too small for my dog even though I went one size bigger to be sure he could fit in it. Really disappointing.
