There is no box like the one in the picture.
It is a compact product. It's a little heavier than a cheap mechanical pencil, but it's well-balanced in weight, so it's easy to write. Before I used this pen, I used a very heavy other company product, so at first I felt it was a little too light, but I soon got used to it. Pentel is a very famous manufacturer in Japan, but Kerry's 0.7mm has not been released in Japan. This mechanical pencil is a cap type like a ballpoint pen. The good thing is that you can carry the pen tip protected by a cap. There is no box shown in the photo in the item description column, so if you want to purchase it as a gift, you will have to prepare a separate gift box.

Elegant and Classy
Background: I am a huge fan of the Pentel sharp Kerry. I actually used this mechanical pencil 10+ years ago when it was called the Pentel 5. Since then the name has changed, but the pencil is still of the same high quality. I currently own about 5-6 of these. I have neglected to write a review for this pencil for about 4 years now (orig purchased on amazon back in 2008). But I use it almost everyday that I believe it truly deserves a good review. So here goes... How it writes? Probably one of THE MOST smoothest mechanical pencils I have ever used. Call me a mechanical pencil geek, but I used to collect different mechanical pencils (ranging from several japanese mechanical pencils to more widely known "Dr. Grips" to test out how each one wrote. The sharp kerry was hands down my favorite. Because the construction of the pen is very solid, there the pencil is of perfect weight (not too light nor too heavy). Build of the pencil? Absolutely solid. As many of the other reviewers have mentioned, the pencil itself comes with a cap which can be attached on either end of the pen. Either the writing end or the eraser end. It is great that there is a refillable pentel eraser at end of the cap. I also feel that the pencil has great durability. The metal on it is not cheap shiny plastic, but rather strong metal. I actually dropped it on the floor a couple of times, yet still no scratches or dents. Aesthetics? One of the most beautiful pencils I have ever used. The metallic appearance of the pencil gives it a "executive look". I have gotten several complements from others- many of whom thought the pencil cost at least $50! Cons? Very few if any! My only grudge is that the small little silver caps can get lost. Not because it falls off easily, but rather if you misplace it when you are using the eraser. I have lost one of the silver caps (but totally my fault), but I am sure that Pentel sells replacement caps. Bottom line: If you are looking for a elegant and classy pencil that write very smoothly, this is definitely for you. Of note, Amazon now offers it for ~$12. When I bought these pencils several years ago it cost ~$20!

Bonito lapicero
El lapicero tiene un diseño bonito y elegante. Aunque la parte inferior es de plástico todo lo demás es de metal. Me gustó mucho.

Great mechanical pencil
This is a truly good mechanical pencil, well built, feels good in the hand, great writer. I like softer, darker lead than the HB grade that comes with most pencils so immediately changed out the lead with my preferred 2B lead. This was a very easy process and it worked flawlessly. For those of you, like me, who said - hey the eraser is missing! (most mechanical pencils have the eraser installed on the pencil barrel to cover the top of the lead fill/storage tube and there was no eraser to be found there on the Sharp Kerry) - after doing a Google search I found the answer about the eraser location - right here on Amazon from a review of the .5mm version of this pencil. David Brown is the reviewer and said it best so I will quote from his review: "To reveal the (very small) eraser, you must snap the cap onto the back end of the pencil, as when writing. This will make the silver button at the top of the cap extend. Pull this button out from the cap to reveal the eraser." The eraser is indeed tiny, so pretty much useless if you need to do a lot of erasing, though you can buy eraser refills. Like most of us who use mechanical pencils, I use a separate eraser anyway so the small size of the eraser is a non-issue for me. Designing a pencil with a cap is a great concept; you can carry the pencil in your pocket without fearing that you will get stabbed by the sharp point and without fearing that you will damage (bend) the lead guide and make the pencil unusable. I always cap it up after I have finished using it whether I plan to carry it with me or not, just for added protection for the pencil itself, in case it rolls off, or gets knocked off, of my desk. As others have stated, the cap snaps on solidly, both when you post the cap in order to write and when you are closing it up after your writing session. The finish is very nice, the whole pencil has a good solid feel to it and is, IMHO, a very nice looking pencil all around. I highly recommend the Pentel Sharp Kerry - I have the .5mm version as well. I am tempted to buy a couple more of these mechanical pencils, just in case something bad happens to one of mine and Pentel, for some unfathomable reason, stops making these wonderful pencils!
