This was the one I was forbidden to see as a kid
Good Guys Wear Black PG 1978This was the one I was forbidden to see as a kidThere was a time when an R rating and a PG rating actually meant something. Not like now... I was not allowed to see this, even though it was PG. Chuck Norris first entered my world with The Octagon (my older step-brother took me to see that one at a local drive-in 1980), and he was one of those movie heroes that you were just meant to like. What irritates me now (as it did then) was the Hollywood obsession with blonde leads. It looks so off putting now, and I'm glad times have changed. But at one point Hollywood only cast blonde folks in leads, and practically every role. This film was up there with Sharkey's Machine as being essential action. Buy when I see it now...man, they just talk so much. And all that walking and sightseeing; transition scenes just dragged on and on. Look for the 18-minute monologue by the bearucrat explaining how they decided the uniforms should be black. I'm not joking. This was, by comparison to today's Attention Deficit films, was kinda slow and boring. And that soundtrack (the horns, violins, and pianos are so 70's). And what was with that guy going all dumb after being shot? "Is that the copter? I like copters. They look like birds! I shot a bird once." Wow. This is classic 70's storytelling. I've learned this was Norris's first film...he still hasn't learned to act. In fact, John T. Booker (classic name) is the SAME character in Invasion USA.5 stars for being such a 70's action film.Have fun, and try to remember: this film is to be taken seriously.

Remember when he was a ... BLONDE ..?
Chuck Norris will always be associated the "Karate" and the famous Blonde lock's of his. I had heard of this movie when I was a little girl ...and never got around to seeing it on cable networks over the past 25 years ago. There are some movie's , I tell you that HBO,Cinemax,The Movie Channel ..just never showed back in the decades past. Chuck Norris is no longer the Karate genius that he once was, he turned 80 years old this past March .. The 1970's- 1980's was a time for KARATE style movie's.. The story line was a bit off ... and the handsome James Franciscus playing a corrupt politician trying to cover up his past deeds is hilarious. The smoldering Anne Archer in a the role of rovering reporter. Golden era movie stars Dana Andrews,Jim Backus {Gilligan Island) co starred ..Chuck Norris wrote the script for this movie... Over all the movie was okay ... but there were some scenes that were a bit off ? Maybe it had something to do with the budget and or editing..?

Fun Watching Chuck Norris' First Film
I'm a Chuck Norris fan, plus I enjoy a good mystery. And it's always a plus when the bad guy is a politician who gets what he deserves in the end. Good fun. Not profound or life-altering, but then that's not why I watch movies most of the time. This one is pure fun.

A good "B" movie.
Despite the fact that there were some skilled actors in this film (and some not so skilled) the production values, the editing and the writing make this a "B" movie. On the other hand, this is a GOOD "B" movie and I liked it.

The First of Many
GGWB was the first film in which Chuck Norris played the leading charecter and while most Norris fans agree that Chuck was still finding his feet with the dialogue, after letting his martial arts skills do his talking in Way Of The Dragon with his good friend and sometime training partner, the late great Bruce Lee,who will ever forget or equal the epic battle between them in the Colluseum in Rome, where the 6 times undefeated world Karate champion allowed his friend to beat and kill him on screen in one of the most theatrical backdrops in the world. When this film was being made Chuck was still teaching Karate to stars like Steve McQueen and James Coburn, while taking acting lessons, which showed a bit for anyone who wasn't concentrating on his brilliant figting skills and the stunts. The most memorable stunt for me,which was repeated many years later in Walker Texas Ranger, was his running jump and side kick through the windscreen of a moving car to take out Sun Tec Ho.Yes the screen may have been made out of Hollywoods toffee glass which smashes easily but theres no mistaking the energy or skill need for the leap and kick.Chuck Norris fought with every tool at his disposal to get backers for this film and never gave up.For those of us who are Chuck Norris fans thank goodness he's as good a fighter in the business arena as he was on a mat or this film and all the others that followed would never have been made. While not as good as A Force of One or Lone Wolf MQuade this is still one of my favorite Chuck films because it was the first.

Total Rubbish.
i have recently purchased 12 chuck norris films ,and the vast majority have been very good viewing .Good Guys Wear Black however was total rubbish ,i threw it in the bin after only 20 minutes , the quality of the picture was shocking like a very badly worn vhs recording from the 70's ,it was mostly very dark ,they are all wearing black and you can hardly pick anyone out ,and when i could it was blurry .its hard to believe the 5 star ratings on this film its almost unwatchable and my Dvd is a legitimate copy ,don't waste your money on this.

remastered decently on bluray!
Well happy with this new bluray as the picture quality is far better than the previous DVD version!-its full screen and has HD master audio sound and looks great for such an old Norris film(released in 1978)It's 96 minuets long and I think its UNCUT too?,i have the DVD and that was uncut being 96 minuets.According to imdb the proper version is 96 minuets so I assume this new bluray is UNCUT..saddely,no BONUS FEATURES at all apart from chapters and sound set up.Still,a classic Chuck Norris film made much better on bluray.(I don't understand some of the negative comments made about this new bluray as it seems fine to me with no complaints.)

Slightly Disappointing
I quite like Chuck Norris and his films but even as a fan i can't rate this, one of his first films, very highly. When you think of Chuck Norris you think of gripping fight scenes, gunfights and explosions, but in this there is very little of that, and its more of a drama than a martial arts movie.Chuck Norris plays Major John Booker who leads a top secret mission into Vietnam to rescue American POW's however they are set up and some of the team get killed. The ones that do get out alive go on to lead very seperate lives, Booker in particular test drives porches and teaches political science. However, one day a nice lady lawyer turns up on his doorstep and starts telling him all the top secret infomation of their mission, some of which even he doesn't know. Booker learns that he, and the other men on the mission are now next on the CIA's it list, but can he find out who's double crossed them before they are all killed. As i have said, there are very little fight scenes for saying that its supposed to be a martial arts movie and what few there are are not particularly well choriographed, unlike many of Chuck's other films. The scenes in the dark at the begining where the troops are n Vietnam are so dark and so poor quality that it is virtually impossible to make out what is supposed to be happening.Overall, 'Good Buys Wear Black' i found was rather dissappointing, however should please die-hard fans of Chuck Norris. For saying that it was a very low budget film, and it is quite old, i guess its not bad, and at such a low price you could give it ago, but just don't expect too much and you might find it alright.
