Many people who show dogs love this conditioner, but it contains dimethicone, which is like putting plastic wrap over the hair and skin. That also means build up in the coat, and you would need to use a clarifying shampoo regularly to remove it. According to Christine Farlow,D.C. in "Dying to Look Good", dimethicone is an irritant and may cause internal problems.

I like this product because it's the first product that makes my pups hair nice and shiny, keeps it from from frizzing up. I use it on a long haired shih tzu and it keeps him looking good on special occassions. I've tried a lot of products, that promise a nice straight shiny look and they work until the dog hits the great outdoors and then it's all over with. My pup has lots of great products, this is one I recently added for those special trips, holidays and picture taking days. I use the shampoo, conditioner and the conditioning spray. I use a little of the conditioner spray on a pin brush, really good for keeping a shine in and the frizz out. My pup has been using the Pure Paws line since he was a puppy. 5 years later his skin is still pretty and soft and his hair is thick, long and strong. If you want your pup to look great inside the home and outside, this is a product that is worth trying. I also have a Yorkie, my Yorkie has very sensitive skin so I don't use this particular pure paws product on him but for my long thick haired shih-tzu with skin that isn't problematic it works great.
