About the Artist The trademark sound of Russell Hitchcock's soaring tenor and Graham Russell's simple yet majestic songs created a unique sound foreven known as, Air Supply. From their initial 1975 meet at rehersal for Jesus Christ Superstar in Syndney an instant freindship formed leading to their own performances and a recording contract. Signed to Arista Records in 1980 "Lost In Love" became the fastest selling single in the world followed by "All Out of Love" which became even a bigger hit. Seven top ten singles later Air Supply, at that time, equaled the Beatles run of consecutive top five singles. The albums, "Lost In Love", "The One That Loves You", "Now and Forever", and "The Greatest Hits", sold in excess of 20 million copies. World wide touring and multi-million plays on the radio solidified Air Supply as a permanent force in modern music. Air Supply were trail blazers on the tour front being the first pop music group allowed to tour China and Taiwan. South America has also been covered as were countless other countries which led to "The Earth Is" selling over a million copies outside of the US alone. This project was followed by the CD "The Vanishing Race" and singles "Goodbye" and "It's Never Too late" with multi-platinum sucess. To the cheers of their millions of concert fans Air Supply recorded two new title (Free Love , The Singer & The Song) to be sold exclusively at their concerts. Based on a distribution deal with OddsOn Records for the first time both titles are available to fans outside of concert venues. Free Love will be released to the general public on July 14, 2009 followed by The Singer & The Song released Sept 15, 2009. Both titles were recorded in Graham Russell's Park City Utah studio and offer acoustic version of Air Supply's greatest hits and standards that have made them one of the all time duo's in history.

Love this new acoustic version!
It's amazing how personal their songs become in this all acoustic CD. While I'm not comparing as apples to apples it's much like John Mellencamp now performing his songs in acoustic folk style (as he intended them to be!) as opposed to the anthem rock style of the 80's. The acoustic version of Free Love brings a pure, simple but yet impactful emotion to the songs. While this CD does not offer their "greatest hits" it does offer the acoustic version of songs which hold special meaning to Graham and Russell. The song "Let's Stay Together Tonight" is my pick favorite. This CD was only previously available for a short time at their concerts. It's great to see it now finally available to everybody. A nice change-up to their strong writting and vocal talents.

Nice Air Supply album
Still the same voices, still good stuff, but not as great as the previous albums. Good songs... good lyrics... and still some good instrumentation.

Not Acoustic
This is not an acoustic CD. Not sure what happened with the marketing on this. Someone got this mixed up with their Singer and The Song CD. This CD appears to be a studio compilation of some of their more recent (non-80s) love songs. Still a great compilation, but definitely some confusion with this release.

Versiones acústicas del dúo australiano que sigue en la brecha y dando conciertos, obviamente por España no se prodigan. Mereció la pena esta adquisición, entre otras cosas por qué aqui ya son difíciles de localizar sus discos y apenas queda tiendas físicas.

ひっそりと発売された意図がいまひとつ不明なアルバム-内容は悪くないです
09年7月にいつの間にかひっそりと発売されていたエア・サプライの新譜。曲目はずべて既発のもののみですが単なる寄せ集めではありません。ちゃんと聞き比べたわけではないのですがボーカルやアレンジをかなりやり直したいわゆるリプロダクションアルバムです。選曲はすべてGIANTS RECORD移籍以降、正確に言うとアルバムTHE VANISHING RACE以降の曲だけです。当初はライブ会場限定での発売だったらしいので懐メロ目当てに集まるオーディエンスに「新しい曲も聴いてくれよ」という彼らなりのアピールだったのかもしれません。中でもTHE BOOK OF LOVEからの選曲が極端に多いのはこの時期がラッセル・ヒッチコックの声の調子がキャリアの中でも最も悪くそれがCDを聞いていても一聴瞭然だったのでやはり彼らとしてもちゃんとした形でやり直したかったのかなぁと思いました。ロスト・イン・ラブとかシーサイド・ラブとかさよならロンリーラブなどのメガヒット時代しか聴いたことのない人たちにはヒットとはちょっと疎遠にになってしまった後期エア・サプライのコンピレーションは新鮮に聞こえるのかもしれませんがそもそもその手のライトユーザーはこんなマニアックなアルバムは買わないだろうしエア・サプライを長年に渡って誠実に聴いてきた筋金入りのファンにすれば新曲が一曲も無い上にTHE SINGER AND THE SONGのように大胆な新解釈がされているわけでもないということでどういう意図でいまこういうアルバムを発売したのかがわかりにくいちょっと中途半端な新譜です。ただ収録曲は全盛期と比べてもまったく遜色の無いいずれ劣らぬ名曲揃いだしエア・サプライにしては珍しいちょっとエッチなジャケットアートもなかなか良くて自分は気に入ってます。インディーズ系レーベルからの発売でいつまで順当に手に入るかわからないのであるうちに買っておくのが吉でしょう。

爽やかさは変わらないまま
かつてのHitchcockは自分以外の全てを圧倒し前座に追いやっていましたが、随分大人しくなりました。"The Singer and the Song"同様、男声コーラスを楽しめるアルバムだと思います。"Even the Nights Are Better"とか"Making Love out of..."しか知らなかった私は30年の間、Air Supplyのヴォーカルは一人だと誤解してました。MP3でAlbum onlyになっているTrack 2はこのアルバムのハイライトでしょうが、女性を追い込んでいくおそろしくねちっこい歌詞を爽やかに演奏しているのはAir Supplyの持ち味だと思います。繰り返しが少しずつ変わって気分を盛り上げていくので、一気に聴けます。クレジットされている長さは感じません。全体的にはちょっと単調な感じですが、個々の曲は丁寧で聴いていると引き込まれるし、ギターや絃楽器なども美しいです。あまり期待しすぎず、就寝前に数曲聞くのがお勧めです。
