Boss Monster is a fun little game, but it's a bit light on variety. Boss Monster 2 improves on this a little with some much-needed additions (and rulebook clarifications), but overall it's the same game. I think this one comes down to how much fun your friends are, and your own personal tweaks on the rules. For example instead of the usual "all players draw a room" phase, we use a draft format -- the player whose turn it is draws several room cards (equal to the player count +1), then chooses one to keep. Then, he/she passes the leftovers around. This helps add a bit more strategy to the game while simultaneously reducing the reliance on luck. We start with the boss with the highest XP, then rotate the turn around the table each new draw phase. We also do a mini-draft with the bosses. Instead of assigning each player a random boss, we instead draw two bosses per person and let the player choose which to keep. Again, just softening randomness and making the game feel more deliberate. Anyway -- if you haven't played Boss Monster and you're trying to figure out where to start, BM2 is the better core set. If you have BM1 and are looking to expand, BM2 will give you far too many cards to use. Best plan for us (we stole this from Reddit) was to combine all of the expansions and then remove ALL duplicate spells and rooms. This makes every dungeon unique and still keeps the game balanced on treasure types. Oh, worth noting: You can only use heroes and epic heroes from ONE set at a time, as the game is balanced around a certain number of regular heroes before you hit the epic heroes. We chose to keep the ones from this set, as they're a bit more interesting than the ones included in BM1.

Great Game! I like that this game can be played with the original or on its own since sometimes the two together can be a lot of cards. I also like that both this game and the original are games that are fun, strategy games that are just as fun to play with two people as it is to play with more. It can be hard to find games that are fun for just two people and don't require more. My husband and I love it and it gets very competitive!

This game is great for anybody in your life that loves board games, card games, classic video games or just loves to hang out with friends & loved ones. It's a fairly quick game to play, which means you can play it any time, or play several rounds in an evening! After several plays, I have to say I still love the original Boss Monster a little more, but this is an excellent expansion or stand alone game.

After playing Boss Monster ten or so times, we were ready for more so I plunked down the money for Boss Monster 2. We have yet to mix the cards since we're having so much fun playing Boss Monster 2 on its own. The room and spell cards are more varied than in the original and it seems to be a little more forgiving to players who are dealt lack-luster hands. Much like the original, it's fast-playing and just as fun with two players as it is with four.

Amazing game for an amazing price. Simple skill floor with a great skill ceiling that promotes complex thinking.

Boss Monster is a much simplier game than I usually play. I tend to go for heavy strategy games with a lot of choices. However, when I'm looking for a fast, easy to learn game that can be taught quickly and which has few complex interactions that can result in analysis paralysis, this is one of my top choices. The card play is simple, but there are different paths to victory and while there is limited direct player interaction what there is tends to be fun and social. This isn't the game for everyone, but it stands out for its surprising depth and fun for a simple game that's loosely based on old pixel graphic side scrollers.

This new version is a great addition to the original Boss Monster with new bosses, card effects and spells. Even though I have been playing it as a stand alone game since July, I still feel that a lot of the cards plays as an expansion that builds on the original. This makes Boss Monster 2 hard to get started with, and for those who have not played Boss Monster before, definitely consider buying the original Boss Monster instead. Overall, it is a very fun and challenging version of Boss Monster. All my friends are intrigued by the game after being introduced, and still rave about it! :D

If you love Boss Monster, & would like a fresh deck of new cards to mix it up, I definitely suggest this. It's the same game, but thanks to the new bosses, heroes, & rooms, it makes it feel like you're playing it for the first time again. & why would they change the game? Don't fix what ain't broken. Then you play it for a week straight & need to put it down for a while, but hey, it kept you going for a week & maybe you'll bring it out when your friends are over to get them hooked too.

J'ai acheter ce jeu de société, en pensant que c'était neuf, mais la boite est totalement usée. Rayures et marques blanc sur la boite.Par contre, les cartes sont bel et bien nouvelles et n'en manquaient pas.

We love playing boss monster and wanted a bit more variety to the game. This expansion adds in a new gameplay, more monsters and heros and adds that bit more difficulty. The quality of the cards are good. Reccomended! This is an expansion pack to the base game.

Boss Monster 2 ist der eigenständige Nachfolger von Boss Monster (2013). Das Spiel läßt sich mit dem ersten Spiel kombinieren, aber auch ohne Teil 1 spielen. Die Regeln sind schnell erklärt: Mit verschiedenen Raumkarten kann man pro Runde einen Fallen- oder Monsterraum errichten (bis 5 Stück insgesamt) und sie vor seinem eigenen Boss Monster platzieren. Aufgrund von verschiedenen Schatz-Symbolen lockt man nun Helden aus dem Dorf an und muss diese in seinen Kerkern vernichten. Ist man erfolgreich, bekommt man Münzen/Seelen (bei 10, hat man gewonnen), ist man nicht erfolgreich, erhält man eine Wunde (bei 5 ist man aus dem Spiel raus). Im Prinzip handelt es sich um ein Spielkonzept in der Art des PC-Spiel-Klassikers 'Dungeon Keeper'. Welche Faktoren beeinflussen nun das Spiel? Einerseits der Zufall: es kommt ganz darauf an, welche Karten man zieht und welche Zaubersprüche man bekommt. Letztere können den Spielfluss deutlich beeinflussen. Wer definitiv kein Glücksspiel sucht, sollte sich den Kauf nochmal überlegen. Allerdings ist gerade Teil 2 etwas entschärft worden und mit einfachen Hausregeln (z.B. Austausch am Anfang von Raumkarten) ist es hier problemlos möglich, Abhilfe zu schaffen, damit alle Spieler gut in das Spiel starten können. Andererseits ist eine gute die Strategie wichtig: Welchen Raum baut man als erstes? Welche Helden werden vom Gegner angelockt, die man aber eigentlich selbst haben möchte? Oder will man gerade in der Anfangsphase partout keinen Helden anlocken? Und als letztes Taktik/Interaktion: Diese ist sehr abhängig von den eigenen Möglichkeiten, Zaubersprüche zu verwenden. Hier ist BM2 erheblich verbessert worden: War es bei Teil 1 sehr schwierig, ohne die geeigneten Karten Zaubersprüche zu erhalten, ist es in dieser Erweiterung balancetechnisch gesehen einfacher und eben besser geworden. Und vor allen die Interaktion hat zugenommen, was für schöne, fiese Spielzüge sorgt. Insgesamt würde ich es so einteilen (BM1 in Klammern) Glück = 50% (60%) Strategie = 25% (25%) Taktik/Interaktion = 25% (15%) Ein Hinweis noch zur Sprache: Das Spiel ist komplett in englisch, gute Kenntnisse werden vorausgesetzt, sind allerdings nicht für alle Spieler zwingend notwendig, wenn man einmal die wichtigsten Begrifflichkeiten geklärt hat. FAZIT: BM2 ist ein schönes, schnelles Spiel, am besten zu zweit oder zu viert spielbar. Über das wundervolle 8/16-Bit Design muss man nichts mehr sagen, denn dies war schon beil Teil 1 unglaublich schön: Liebevolle Zeichnungen mit vielen Anlehnungen aus der Welt der Videospiele, wunderbarer 'Pixel Art Style' und knuffige Charaktere. Für Retro Fans lohnt sich die Anschaffung schon allein fürs Regal. ;-) Kartenmaterial: durchschnittlich (Sleeves bieten sich an) Spieldauer: ca. 30 Minuten, 45 Minuten bei 4 Spielern, 1h am Anfang, wenn die Regeln noch nicht klar sind Wer ein schnelles Kartenspiel für zwischendurch sucht und schon mit BM1 geliebäugelt hat, sollte definitiv zu Teil 2 greifen, da die Balance verbessert wurde und die Helden durchweg mehr Abwechslung reinbringen. BM2 wird man sicherlich immer wieder mit zu einer Spielrunde mitnehmen, vorausgesetzt, die Englischkenntnisse sind kein Hindernis. Dann ist BM2 eine uneingeschränkte Kaufempfehlung wert.
