Great Little Amp.
This amp sounds pretty good, all things considered, like price and size. I'm using this little guy to push a pair of Fisher 50 watt ported cabinets with 3 way crossovers. It has 0.04% Total Harmonic Distortion (THD) @ half power or 20 watts. I haven't had to push it near that to fill my 23'x20' living room. It does get a little warm, but not near what I thought it would get, but I still keep it in the open so it will run as cool as possible. My only warning is that you make sure your TV will let you control volume with its remote when using the optic out feature. I thought mine did, but it doesn't. I have a 1 year old Samsung Series 6, 50" LED "Smart" TV. I was sure that I saw in the documentation that I could control the volume when using the optic out, but I can't find the manual for it. Oh well. At this point, I'm using the Amp just for movies and set the volume manually and use the TV speakers to supplement the sound and control the volume. Works pretty good as I can still control the overall volume to a certain extent. I can disable the TV speakers, but by using them as described, I can semi control the volume (does that make sense? LOL).I am considering trying the HDMI Audio Return Channel (ARC) to a HDMI-Optic converter ($29) into the Amp, just to see if I can control the volume that way. In theory, it should work, but I need to do some research. Even with the extra cost of the ARC/Optic converter, it will still be cheaper than buying a low end receiver. If any one has a suggestion, please comment.

Unit overheats and may have failed as a result
My unit only lasted for a little more than 1 year, before it stopped working altogether. While it worked the sound quality was admirable given the size of the unit and the application was to drive TV digital audio through JBL in-ceiling speakers. The problems consist of not being able to power on or off the unit other than unplugging it. The need to unplug was due to safety concerns surrounding the unit getting very hot and wanting to place it in a concealed area. Further when unplugging the adapter from the unit itself, the connection arcs 80% of the time this exacerbating the safety concerns. It appears as though the overheating, the arcing or something else has caused the unit to fail. I will try connecting to a different speaker just to make sure it didn’t destroy the speakers or additional inwall volume control I have, but overall the unit may not be the safest in terms of its circuitry design and power management.

Poorly designed
This amplifier can not be plugged in to power continuously as it heats up and the sound disconnects until it cools down . Very inconvenient as the power has to be disconnected by pulling the power plug to the amplifier. No switch or remote to turn on or off. Very dissapointing , it works well for external speakers but trouble began shortly after using it on a full time basis. Not worth the money.

Disappointing performance when connected to tv set.
Seems to work as advertised, but its usefulness is limited. I tried it on 4 different TV sets and found the output volume to vary widely across them, with none being anywhere near as loud as should be expected with this amp. The TV volume control does not affect the output volume from the amp. I am only able to control the output volume with the manual control on the amp. The power this amp is rated to deliver should rattle the windows in a room, but I don't get anywhere that much power. It seems that there is an incomplete standard interface definition for optical audio,

Superior sound to the $30 amps
I've got a couple of these amplifiers now, powering On-Q In-Ceiling Speakers , connected to an Apple Airport Express . I opted for the digital connection rather than the analog version because I figured...well, why not? The DAC in these amplifiers sounds pretty good, and the overall sound quality from these is a cut above the low-end Tripath amplifiers like the Lepai LP-2020A+ . As other reviewers have mentioned, the actual output power is probably closer to 15-20W than 80W, but for my applications, that's not an issue. Why only four stars? The LP-2020A has three things this amp doesn't - tone controls, a power switch, and wall-mounting ears. I can live without the tone controls, but the power switch and mounting ears would make this thing just about perfect for your small amplifier applications.Update 2017-04-17Purchased a second Amphony amplifier for use with a pair of Bose 141 Bookshelf Speakers and another Airport Express I had sitting around. The Airport Express *does* let you control the volume through its digital output, so the volume wheel on the Amphony acts more like a volume limiter than a volume control. The Airport Express connects to the Amphony with a KabelDirekt Mini TOSLINK Optical Cable . Very good sounding combination for an affordable price.

I will certainly buy another Amphony mini amp at some point
Great tiny amplifier. Even smaller than I expected and I was expecting small. This review is subjective as I did not run a bunch of tests to verify fidelity, distortion, or power output. What I can say is it drove my Klipsch bookshelf speakers providing far more volume than I needed to fill my large living room. I noticed/heard no distortion, again no qualitative measurement but I am a picky listener. I suppose if I had turned the volume all the way up it might have clipped, but it reached uncomfortably loud long before that happened, so I never cranked it all the way up.Unfortunately it did not meet the specific requirements of my application so I returned it. Customer service was great, offered some suggestions but obviously understood why it was not suitable for my application. They provided an RMA and refunded my purchase price.I am sure there is another Amphony mini amp in my future. The product seems well built, performs as described and the folks are very easy to work with. I have other applications/projects in planning that will certainly benefit from these tiny amplifiers.

Short Comings
No power off switch, Left the unit plugged in for 3-days which apparently caused caused it to overheat and stop functioning. The unit did continue to work after a brief period of disconnecting the power supply. This can be cumbersome depending on where the unit is located.
