Good adaptor but external app is pricy.
Adaptor is good. But is slow. Needs Bluetooth. Transferring data is too long. The Carly app is too expensive. For bmw it’s 54.99 a year. Every year. Crazy amount of money.

Poor item and performance.
Very poor performance from this unit. What a waste of money this was to find out that I purchased a product which cost me a lot of money and to find out that the unit itself kept saying that the reader was out of date and not compatible. no help from customer service at all what a waste of money this was.

Excellent product
Excellent product. Saved me many pounds on reading the codes on my BMW F32 and doing a bit of coding, which this machine makes so easy for someone with zero previous coding experience. Excellent product!

A bit misleading on capabilities
Bought this as I'm not new to coding and have owned VAG-COM and OP-COM amongst others in the past but BMW coding has always required a cobbled together version of NCS-Expert or INPA and this comes with challenges and also risks.Carly seems to overcome some of these issues by presenting you with a modern simple interface and it does look pretty good.I have two BMW's at the moment, a 2013 E70 (X5) and a 2019 G02 (X4) which we both bought brand new.The E70 seems to allow some decent coding, but nothing advanced. It allowed me to auto fold my mirrors on locking but not a lot more that was of note. I actually wanted to enable the mirror folding on the move. The car wont fold mirrors when above about 15mph which can be a problem when on a narrow country lane. I wanted to overcome this by removing the speed actuation but Carly does not offer this. When I plugged it into the X4, it literally does nothing. The Carly website shows lots of options for the G02 X4 to be coded but in reality it allows pretty much nothing.I spoke to Carly and they said it might be because the car has been into BMW and been updated, but as the car is only 3 months old, I can confirm is certainly has not. The ability of the program is overstated on this car.More concerning, it is VERY misleading on the initial connection overview page where it shows mileage fraud probability is medium and fault probability is high on our X4 G02. How has it worked that out?! The car is three months old and only covered about 1800 miles. - See attached photo. If a potential owner of a BMW buys this and plugs it into a car to get an insight into the car's history, this could skew their view of a vehicle with absolutely no genuine basis whatsoever.Disappointing.**If you found this review helpful, please click the button below as the feedback helps my motivation to write more reviews**

Very good if you have the apps, and the right car!
This thing is crazy expensive for what it is. If you got it on a Black Friday deal then lucky you, but I paid full price! But then, why did I pay full price? I had an original BMWhat (Carly used to be called BMWhat) that I lost, and it was a really good OBD reader, which combined with the pay-for phone app gives you amazing levels of coding and diagnostics comparable to what you might otherwise need a laptop for. There’s an app for BMW and an app for Mercedes and this adapter will work with both. What’s more, the way the phone connects to this device is really smart, and it allows your phone to stay connected to mobile data while being connected to the device, using Bluetooth (without the need for pairing) rather than wifi.I do wish there was compatibility with a wider range of cars however, and I expect other apps won’t work with this device due to the way the phone connects to it, so I’m dropping a star because of that.

Not what it seems.
I returned this item as it was a dissapointment. It would not list my car even though it’s one of the most common cars on our roads. Furthermore, to get any information you were expected to pay an additional £84 on top of the purchase price of £99. This should have been made clear in the listing.

This product needs a manual; you don't have to pair it!
This is a nice upgrade from Gen II iOS WiFi dongle, allowing me to stay connected to my home WiFi on the drive while using the Carly app. But the fancy and otherwise plain Carly branded packaging needs some info for previous users (and it has none). The new adapter doesn't broadcast any network for you to connect to (it's not WiFi), nor does it Bluetooth-pair to your iPhone. Just plug the adapter into your car's ODBII port, start the Carly app and click the 'Connect' button in the middle-bottom of the screen. You'll be prompted to choose which type of adapter you have and when you choose the new style your iPhone will connect and you'll be up and running. If you look in your Bluetooth settings while the Carly app is in a 'connected' state you'll see a 'Connected' 'CarlyABCDEF' device but with no 'i' in a circle option button where you could choose to 'Forget this device' (because you haven't paired it!).
