Awesome toy for a 5 yr old
I purchased this toy for my 5 year old daughter. After reading some of the reviews I thought twice about purchasing it but I'm so glad I did. She completely loves it! After we made the first batch together she is able to do it by herself. The toy is very safe and so much fun for her. It only takes about 10 minutes to melt the candy in the oven and when it is done the over shuts itself off. Then the door stays locked until the candy is completley cool so there is no chance of burning yourself (this takes 20-30 minutes). Overall I feel this toy is very safe and very fun for my 5 year old.

Don't waste your money
This product does not work as described. The oven does not come with the light bulb required and said light bulb is hard to find. The oven does not heat well, nor evenly. Some of the smaller candy finally melted after about an hour, but the other candy did not. It's hard to get the melted candy out while trying to leave the unmelted candy undisturbed. It was such a disappointment!

Plug in will not stay plugged in! Takes almost an hour to make 4 candies!
Based on reviews, I was not expecting much. We had no problems finding the right light bulb at our local Target, and expected that "hurdle". However, the candy maker would not stay plugged in. You would barely touch it and the plug in would fall right out-- the kids wanted it on the table to they could "see" the magic. What a pain! It took about 45 minutes for the candies to "bake" and you end up with 3 little candies.Maybe for an 8 year old this would be more appropriate, but my 6 year old did not have the patience for the candy . . . nor did her 9 months pregnant mom.

how do you work this thing?!
made the mistake of purchasing this for a 5 year old. she didn't quite understand how to operate it and wasn't able to make any jewelry on it. she ate the candy instead which she said was quite good. that's the only consolation there. the candy was good.

It's worth it
When I read the other reviews I wasn't sure whether I should buy. I did anyways because I got a great price and my 10-year-old really wanted it. Her and her sisters were thrilled. It worked just the way it was supposed to and melted the candy in about 15 minutes. The only drawback was buying my own lightbulb but because I read the reviews I was prepared. It was definitely her favorite gift and she thanked me again and again.

Ours works great and a lot of fun
We got this Candy Jewel Factory from one grandma for Christmas and the Girl Gourmet Cupcake decorator from another one. The cupcake one was not good. Cupcakes did not taste good. Frosting did not decorate, ran all over the place and was over in a second. Each packet of cupcake mix and frosting makes one cupcake and that is all. The jewelry maker has been hours and hours of fun today and the candy tastes great, too. You put the sprinkles in the molds, put the molds in the little oven, it completely melts, can't open the door until it cools, and my 7 year old has been making necklaces, rings, everything. Even would buy the refills. The Easybake oven we got last year have been in the closet, food wasn't good, mess to clean up. This is fantastic. Candy cooks in 11 to 13 mins, it has to cool for 20 mins before door opens, then easily pops out of the mold. Plus there is another mold tray to be decorating while the other one is cooking.

Does not work!
The packaging does not indicate that it does not come with a 40W bulb, so I had to run out to get the bulb while my kid was ready to 'cook' her candy. Then realized bulb was not strong enough to melt candy into mold, we tried to cook it multiple times and it did not work. The candy came in un-resealable baggies which was very difficult to contain so be aware that it will get everywhere. My kid was so frustrated with it not working and gave up on it. It was complete waste of time.
