Engineer's Choice

This is one of the best CDs you can get to determine if your stereo is capable of reproducing well recorded CDs. The selections are focused on classical music, but cover a wide range of styles and musical groupings, from soloists to full orchestra or choir. On top of this, the selections are thoughtfully sized. By this I mean they are not chopped off abruptly. These are all so enjoyable that you may be tempted to go out and obtain a lot of recordings they are taken from (a very clever marketing technique). There's a second volume of engineer's choices that are worth getting too.The booklet provides a lot of information about what to listen to as well as how the recording was made. All in all, one of the best of these CDs I've ever listened to.

If you want to evaluate a a home audio system, or you want to know about how good a classic music recording can be, buy this samplers. This sampler have very good sound, dinamics, sounstage, etc in the best way you can think.

Good sonics by a great engineer, but not a great selection of musical pieces. Vol. 2 is better.

This CD contains Recording Engineer John Eargle's best efforts, showing what is so possible yet so elusive when it comes to recording classical music. The man who literally wrote the book on the classical music recording arts (and it's so technical but still an art in and of itself) has presented his choices for his best works and they will astound and delight all serious classical listeners with their clarity and authenticity. It will make you wonder why can't this be just be done with every classical recording, and you will get the sense that if it could just be done it would greatly increase the popularity of recorded classical music.It's a knockout. You'll be amazed.
