OXO Good Grips Over the Sink Convertible Colander

I have bought one strainer in my life and it’s this one (currently making spaghetti and meatballs and figured I write a stellar reveiw about this strainer) it’s amazing because it doesn’t sit in the sink if you use the legs, so the water doesn’t splash back on the noodles after touching the sink. It’s basically still like new, no defects, no stains, no negative comments. Buy this strainer and save yourself the hassle of other crappy strainers.

How it arrived, it was just what I needed. I would have given it 4.5 to 5 stars. I mainly wanted a colander that kept pasta above the sink to drain. I found I did not need the handles, as it was big enough for my standard sink without the handles. The handles just got in the way at that point. After using it, and looking further, I would be looking for giving it 6 stars.The handles can be removed by 2 screws on each corner. Still big enough for a standard sink, and the rubber side grips allow me to use it without the fold up handles. I just unscrewed them and threw them away.It is now perfect!!! What a great design and addition to the kitchen.I also love while it is oblong, they put round edges on the sides that allow you to stack other colanders or bowls inside for nesting with no problem so it does not take up unnecessary space.

Okay, I admit I am an "OXO-groupie". I love their well-made products and I even visit the OXO Tower on the south bank of the Thames when I'm in London. They have great design shops and a cool restaurant at the top. Why is this important? It isn't, but it may cement my claim to being a huge fan of OXO products.This product - the OXO Good Grips Convertible Plastic Colander - is as good as every other OXO product I've bought and used. The "legs" extend over my sink perfectly (now, I have one of those sinks that have a small basin on one side and a larger on the other. I don't know how well it will work on sinks that have two equal size basins.) If you don't want to extend the legs, they are in a well folded position. The holes drain efficiently and the bowl can be used to drain hot water, as well as cold water without warping the plastic. There's not much you can say about a plastic colander - books are a lot easier to write a review about - but OXO makes good products. They're not too expensive. I think you can count on this colander to do what it's supposed to do and add a bit of chic to your kitchen.

This fits perfectly in our sink, either laterally or longitudinally. My main use for it is rinsing and draining fruits and vegetables after washing or blanching. In my last colander, little bits of food (e.g. broccoli or strawberry seeds) would get caught in the holes and were difficult to wash out. This one does not have this problem - a quick rinse on both sides and it's clean. Also, it is very easy to pour a large pot of boiling water and spaghetti into this, and just as easy to transfer the contents out again. The extendible feet make the colander fairly stable whether you have it in a sink or on the counter. Overall very well designed, and a pleasure to work with. You will swear off all other colanders after having used this one.

Hmmm.... it's nice.... but now I'm hooked on all the collapsable stuff out there, from colanders to mixing bowls to measuring cups to measuring spoons to whatever - so this will go somewhere else, and I'm only using a tiny fraction of the space. That means more space for FOOD! ;-)

It may sound silly, but I am in love with this colander! I have gone through a string of metal colanders that have all rusted within months, even the "designer" ones. I had a plastic one but it kept tipping over and any thin pasta fell through the holes. This colander has eliminated all those problems. The non-slip feet keep it from sliding around, and elevate it off the bottom of the sink. I have a fairly wide, undivided sink and unfortunately with the legs out it is just a smidge too short to dump anything heavy (pasta) into when placed across the sink. However, I have used it "open" for veggies and fruit for rinsing. I have yet to lose a single piece of angel hair through the the holes, yet it drains quickly. Wouldn't trade this for another!Update 3/16/15: Every time I use this, I can't help thinking how happy I am that I chose this out of all the possible choices. Best colander I have ever owned!

I love this colander. It is constantly being used. It can sit anywhere, spans the sink or sits on its folded legs. It is totally worth the price, I've had one for years and was chewing up the edge by cutting fruit on it. I just wanted a new one as stand by, but I'm still using my old one. Some day will transfer the old one to use as a garden colander.

Acabo de recibirla y es robusta y de buena calidad. Es muy útil poder ponerla apoyada a ambos lados del fregadero. Recomiendo su compra sin ninguna duda.

Articolo di ottima fattura, plastica spessa e di buona qualità. Il meccanismo di apertura e chiusura risulta robusto segno di durabilità nel tempo. Forse il prezzo è un po’ alto ma la qualità si paga. Spedizione puntuale.
