Railroad: What It Is, What It Does : The Introduction to Railroading

The book is becoming slightly outdated but still has some good information about railroad operations.

Great book if you want the many, many details given you from an engineer's perspective. Though if you want to know about a railroad and how it operates, this is the book for you.

I just started working as a conductor and fireman on a scenic railroad in Central New Hampshire. The chief engineer who's training me as a fireman told me this was a must read. He loaned me his copy that's the 3rd edition. This newer edition has many more pages and is an excellent book if you want to know everything there is to know about railroads. Just a few tips in this book make it worth the purchase price.

Picked this up to get a better understanding of how tier 1 railroads work. The material is slightly dated, but is still a great overview of how the industry runs and operates.

This s a good overviewv of the US rail idustry basis. A comprehensive 101 course.It is somewhat dated and does not cover the recent changes to regulations and state of the art.

Very informative and detailed boo. Can be used as text book as well in spite of the continuous change of the railroad regulations.

This book presents the history and evolution of all aspects of the railroad industry in a concise and comprehensible manner for a very broad range of readers.
