Phenomenal Storytelling, Pulse Pounding Thriller
In just a few brief sentences with some judiciously well crafted words, the author plants her flag and declares, “BAM, I’m here.”At least, that’s how I felt. It’s an intense book from the beginning as we are thrust into the 3rd person pov of a woman in distress, charging haphazardly from what must have been a violent situation, in the middle of nowhere, still bound, still on the brink of danger. I live for books that kick off in chaos.By chance, Sanne Jensen, one of the local major crime detectives is doing her usual run in the area and helps to rescue her. Saving the woman’s life creates a visceral bond that I don’t think would have happened if she was just assigned the case. Regardless, Sanne and her senior team are hell bent to find the offender and bring him to justice. There are twists and turns to satisfy. The tone stays consistent. The author keeps the narrative brimming with tension but not histrionic. Sanne and her best friend, Dr Meg Fielding, are a unique non-couple couple. Full bodied, vulnerable people who are so very much in love that it makes your heart smile. I’m with family and friends, can you all just make it official please and quit calling yourselves just friends.I loved that at the 80% mark, instead of romance angst, the story revved up and created that crazy gut clenching that I remember from watching the ending of Silence of the Lambs and Seven. Jumping right into book 2.

Fantastic!!
I don’t know if “Love” is the right work to describe how much I liked this book because of the subject matter and it being a crime/mystery novel, but I thought it was fantastic! Loved the writing, loved the main characters, loved that I knew some words but had to google others because I wasn’t totally sure what they meant. Forgive me as I was born in England, I’ve lived all but 3 yrs of my life in the US. I loved the charm and wit of Sanne & Meg & Nelson. I’m a good fan Andrea Bramhall’s Norfolk Coast Investigation series but this series may have topped that one for me, although I will continue to wait patiently for any new Bramhall new release. Looks like I need to get caught upon Cari Hunter’s other books however! Would absolutely recommend this book!

Couldn't put it down
The novel is both a great romance and a criminal mystery. I could see this plot as part of "Criminal Minds". Det. Sanne (Sanner) Jensen has been friends with Dr. Med Fielding some they were very young. They are friends with benefits. On one of Sanne's runs, she comes across a terrible accident...a woman has fallen over the cliff. Sanner gets banged up in her rescue and there's more to it than just falling off the cliff. Sanner is in the good graces of her boss, Eleanor, but not so much with Eleanor's Asst. Sanner and her partner break all the rules the scout out the crime scene and then the criminal. It is awesome!

A great start to a new series
There are a lot of things to like about this story:#1 is the relationship between Sanne and Meg.#2 is how Cari Hunter handled the telling of the story. I really liked that as the reader we are seeing the investigation and the aftermath of the crime but we don't actually witness the crime as it occurs.#3 I was surprised at how much I enjoyed the use of "British" English. Most of the time I was able to figure out what some of the slang meant just based on the context of the sentence. Otherwise, my kindle did a great job providing the definitions.#4 that this is the 1st in the series, I'm looking forward to seeing what happens with the development of all the characters.

This is an excellent romance novel and a great mystery
This is an excellent romance novel and a great mystery. The author has managed to capture that atmosphere of a police station and a busy A&E department perfectly. Unsurprisingly the author is a paramedic, and as a former Australian ER and Psych nurse (now retired) I can say she is spot on. I can also attest to the accuracy of the police station scenes, coming from a family with many members on the New Zealand force! I am currently reading book three in this series and hoping for many more

Good mystery
This what you get this book a good mystery minus romance. I liked the characters Sanne and Meg. What I liked about Sanne was she wasn't your typical bad ass cop. She admitted to being scared. The only thing I found that bothered me a little but not enough to stop reading was. The books pace was slow, I like my mysterious fast pace. I did feel like I have visited England even though I never been. I do recommend this book. Off to read book 2.

Another great mystery from Cari Hunter
I waited 2 days after I bought this book to start reading because I knew I would sit down and not stop until I had finished the entire thing. It was well worth the wait. Outstanding character development. I am so looking forward to seeing where these characters go in upcoming stories. Believable well paced mystery. This book is a keeper. Buy it. Read it. Count the days until next installment.

A Very Good Reason to Read It.
This author's style of writing gives the reader a feeling of intimacy with the characters, as if you are part of their circle of acquaintances. Frequently the door is opened to the seamier side of life and the reader is subjected to the perspectives of what a medical professional and police officer sometimes have to face. It isn't pretty. Although there is violence, those parts of the narration are presented with such care as if to protect the reader from the harsher realities of life. I must admit I appreciated that, since I have imagination enough without needing the added extra of minute detail to colour my dreams of gore. Even though the subject of this book is in not pleasant, I found it less full-on than the other books this author has written. I don't quite know how I feel about that. Probably relieved, but still... I can't quite say something was missing, because I don't think it was. Just that the book was more tame. Thinking about that, I think what it is is that the book was realistic, as in the situations, as they are written in this book, are much more likely to occur than the circumstances in the other books by this author. When you think of it like that, then chills run down your spine. This could happen to any one of us.
