We want to use this lamp to provide two people with enough light to play cards with on our balcony. Average time we play is one hour. Will this work?

I don't think so. It's a nice little portable sensor light. But it wouldn't be bright enough for me to play cards, unless, perhaps, dead center on the play table.

As a bedside lamp can you read with this? Also, can you not use the sensor function or is it always on sensor?

The LED lights are really quite tiny. I would not use it as a reading lamp because it is not bright enough for reading, at least not for me. You can set the sensor to motion, or turn it off.

How do you get the dimmer light on motion sensor mode?

If u remove the shade will the lamp still work? I woild amwant to chnage or paint the shade if jt doesn't impact the function of the lamp.

It SHOULD? The sensor that detects movement to light the lamp is located on the base, so it doesn’t seem like removing the shade would affect the functionality. Interesting idea!
