Clean, uniform sand for textured paint
I had a project where I had to "repair" a section of wall that had been painted with a textured finish. I was just going to get a bag of beach sand and use that, but then learned you need to "wash" the sand to get dirt and dust out of it before you add it to paint. This Roll-A-Tex sand from Zinsser was just the ticket. I mixed just a little at a time, mainly by guessing, with some white enamel. Then I used a brush to apply it. You don't use brush strokes, though. You dab it on, and use the bristle ends to make spikes of paint/sand. It worked great. I was able to match several areas where the texture had been damaged. After I repainted the room with the final color, you couldn't see where the repairs were! This is a great product for the purpose I used it for. It may be too expensive to use it for an entire room, but that depends upon how much you use. They may have larger containers, too. But it worked great for me, and I'm very happy with it.

Texture additive
Unfortunately we didnโt get to use this product this time but we have use numerous times in the past and it has worked well. Itโs great for hiding small imperfections in drywall ceilings, which is what Iโve used it for. Good product.

Textured Paint
This stuff is great! I found this product years back on a clearance shelf and decided to give it a try. It does a great job adding texture! It reminded me of Dry-lock or other paints meant for use on concrete or block. We used it on an old porch and it filled in holes and gaps! Turned out great!! Highly recommended.

Good coverage, but be careful during application and reduce coverage expectations
I purchased this product because I had walls that were already painted with a sand texture, and I had done some wall repair culminating in sanding some areas smooth. Therefore, i wanted this additive to use with the new paint so the walls would have a sand-like texture and not show the smooth repair areas. To that end, this product worked great. I added the 1 pound box to a gallon of paint, and it covered very well. No smooth spots. HOWEVER, here are two things to keep in mind when applying. First, the instructions say to mix this in a separate container because you won't have enough room in your one-gallon paint can -- this is very true. What the instructions didn't make clear is that adding this product to paint will noticeable REDUCE the coverage of your paint. I used MUCH more paint to cover the room I was painting than I would have painting a room of similar size with just paint (without additive). So when you calculate coverage, cut it in half (approximately) when using this additive. Second, when applying this with a roller (I used a 3/4" nap roller cover), make sure there is plenty of paint (with additive added) on the roller cover! Under normal circumstances, you roll some paint on the roller, apply it to the wall, and then apply a little pressure to squeeze paint out of the roller. DO NOT do that with this additive in the paint. Instead, apply paint to the roller cover, roll paint on the wall, and as soon as you start running even a little low on paint on the roller cover, reload. If you try to "squeeze" paint out of the roller cover with this additive, you will get big clumps of sandy additive on the wall, rather than even application. If you apply it with plenty of paint on the roller, the additive spreads out smoothly and you get nice, even coverage and a great sandy texture which is actually excellent at covering wall imperfections. SO: expect less coverage and make sure you keep plenty of paint on the roller cover, and you should have good results. Once I realized this, I found this to be an excellent additive that covered my walls just as I had expected.

Works well with drywall compound to replicate textured ceilings for repair
I added it to drywall compound to repair a damaged highly textured ceiling. I worked great. the trick is to use an old bristly paintbrush and shove it into the sand/compound mix and then poke it repeatedly onto the ceiling. It leaves spikey surfaces that very closely resemble the undamaged area. The only telltale was the color (white) was slightly different than the original. I suggest if you use it this way, you mix a few different ratios of drywall compound and sand and experiment to see what comes close. for me it was 1/2 cup compound to 4 teaspoons of sand.

Not my style
Purchased to use in 1 gal of paint in my daughter's room. The product itself is easy to mix. There's no room in the can for it, so you need a separate mixing set up. Def use a paint mixer. Makes it easier on you, but you can totally do it by hand. The paint becomes thick. If paint sits for a while in between coats, like next day as mine did, mix it again. I felt like the grains settled down. I used a thicker nap roller so not sure how a foam roller would perform. Paint was easy to apply and covered well. The texture rough. I did 2 coats. I had splatter that I don't normally have with plain paint, probably because of the longer nap and thicker consistency. I wasn't able to clear the room before painting so I was working around furniture. I would def cover the floors and any furniture that is close to where you're painting. My daughter loves it, but it's not my style or choice of texture.

So so sand attentive .
good for a light texture but if getting it to hide imperfections like water stains etc it did nothing for the issue so i was disappointed .

Much better than expected
I love this stuff! My paint in the garage was peeling. I sanded it down and parts were still uneven. I added a little of this to the paint tray each time I refilled it. I let it sit for a few minutes to soak up the paint and mixed well. This did the trick. The walls look great with a subtle sandy texture.
