Was terrific in it's own right but not lot like the movie....
If you have seen the good film with Brad Pitt et al and are thinking that this long short story (not quite a novella) will be the same, IT'S NOT! The book is a small piece of Fitzgerald's genius that has been hiding much too long. We do need to thank the filmmakers however, for bringing this genius to the screen today.Because the story was written fairly early in the last century, it is quite different aesthetically than what we are used to. The hospital scene at the beginning for example when Benjamin's father walks in after the "baby" is born is quite early 20th century. As the book continues into the story further-Like when he is 20 (and looks 50), Fitzgerald tells us he Benjamin is often mistaken for his father, and when he is 50 (and looks 20), he is often mistaken for his son. This of course, (had we not seen the film) would press normal rational thinking. Imagine when folks first read this story in Colliers Magazine in 1922, how it must have impressed them! The ending of the story comes as it must and was much more dramatic than the movie. I actually read it before bedtime and was so disturbed I had a hard time sleeping! Great fiction from one of America's great writers!

Great Quick Read
This is a very enjoyable quick read. This is the story of Benjamin Button who is born with a deformity...he appears to be an 80 year old man. To make things more interesting he appears to be getting "younger" as he ages. This story is about the trials he endures, his changing views and the changing views of those around him through out his life.

Beautiful book!
The book is in perfect condition. Hard cover books are usually expensive. This one wasn't. It will last for many years so I can pass it down to my kids.

It's different
Never have read any of Fitzgerald's work. Benjamin was born old and then continues to age backwards. It's Fitzgerald's way with words that you continue reading. The time span encompasses the period before the U.S. Civil War to after WW1.

Amazing
The only problem i had with this book is that i made the mistake and saw the movie before i read the book and keept saying "the book is based very loosely off the movie" but its not the case. Its the other way around, which was a little disappointing on the movies behalf but it was still a very good book. I just wouldnt recomend seeing the movie then reading the book.
