Foster Grant Conan Multifocus Reading Glasses

good fit, good quality.
These are my go-to glasses. I spent several hundred dollars on a prescription set of progressive lenses, and within 6 months I needed a stronger prescription. My optometrist recommended these and I am so grateful. They allow me to work on my computer screen and see up-close writing such as my phone without changing readers. I like the way they look and fit. At this price, I leave a pair on my desk in my office and keep one with me.

The multifocal idea for 'readers' actually does work for these spectacles. No need to deal with 15 and 2.0 and 2.5 focal lengths
To agree with earlier favorable reviews, my specific situation is this:Had cataract surgery early today (Aug 23, '18) with (now) both eyes done "far" and thus, need for "readers" for close work.I ordered in advance, the 1.0 model of these items, and after just a 1/2 day of using them, I hope they don't break at the frames, because....with the dilations wearing off, I can already see how my distance vision - say, flatscreen HD at about 8-10 feet - my vision in both eyes is almost as crisp as my (now) 20/20 vision in both eyes with my new intraocular lenses. And yes - the "multifocus" idea does work, even as my today's surgical dilations wear off, in that my close vision is sharp, up to about 2-1/2 feet away and on out to the TV. I'm impressed, and I use a laptop on a chair-arm support to use the internet as we all do, and this makes it possible to watch TV and do the closer work (not REAL close, like 1 or 2 feet away) - do the closer work with ease of vision.Note: the farthest focus is at the top of the lens, and with the 1.0 mag I ordered, there is just slight magnification at the top of the lens. At the bottom it's about a 2.0 focus requirement.Good product. If the frames DO break, I would consider buying two more pairs, until I tire of replacing them or buy prescription trifocals to make life easy. I wear this single pair of spex, constantly.I would add, now on Sept. 19, that fully recovered from cat surgery, I can read with one pair of these multifocals, up to one foot away; and for "far", I can see clearly up to ten + feet away. Further, and there is slight magnification, so for say, driving, I don't use anything over my eyes save perhaps for plain sunglesses; closer than a foot? I use a 2.0 or even a 2.5 for very close work. Great product!Second update: Uh oh! Now, on Sept 22, '18, the hinges suddenly ? have begun to work loose from the frames, same as described in many earlier reviews. I'll buy another two pairs, and if quality control not improved for this subsequent purchase, I'll look for other brands. I LOVE these multifocals, as they work wonderfully, technically - but if the hinges continue to break, I'd recommend avoiding them. I guess I'm a glutton for punishment....

Excellent glasses. Shipping package and glasses case need improvement.
I bought these as a higher-strength replacement for the same Foster Grant reading glasses that I have now. They're exactly as described, and I'm pleased with their appearance, performance, and comfort.I deducted a star because they were sent in a plastic envelope lined with small bubble-wrap. This provided minimal protection during shipping. Fortunately, they arrived in excellent condition, but I would have preferred a sturdier, recyclable small box.The fabric glasses case is too small. It matches the frame width and height, but there isn't enough material to accommodate the depth of the closed temples / arms. I'm not comfortable jamming the glasses into it. I should not have to buy a separate case that fits properly because of a design defect.

Readers for serious readers
They do look kinda dorky, but they're sturdy, and the lenses are a real notch above any other OTC reader I have tried. They are really graduated from almost no power to max rated power, top to bottom. I have three pair in various powers. Higher power is excellent for shop work.

Great idea, defective product in my case, seemingly difficult customer service
Love these glasses, just wish they lasted longer than a month without breaking.I purchased two pair — first one broke via defect. Customer service just a wee bit difficult. I've posted the emails below. As of noon 5/26, still waiting to hear back from them. Will add that email shortly after I receive it. Caveat emptor. If I get satisfaction from them in the way of a refund for the first pair I'll change my rating. If I have to jump through hoops or don't get satisfaction it will remain one star. Here's the email thread:On Tue, May 26, 2015 at 10:03 PM:Hello -I purchased a pair of Conan multifocus readers off Amazon.com at the end of April.LOVE them, but the left bow popped off the metal attachment (and a tiny piece of the metal broke as well.)I am heartbroken at having to go back to doubling up glasses, and wonder if you have a warranty that would cover this.I purchased another pair on Amazon just tonight. I’ve enclosed both invoices for your review and would be happy to send you the broken pair as proof. Please let me know if you would be able to refund my money for the additional pair I had to purchase. Many thanksOn May 27, 2015, at 9:46 AM, Unknown fgxics <[email protected]> wrote:Hello,Thank you for contacting Foster Grant. It broke at the bow just as I described in my first email.Happy to send it back. Prefer to send photos, as it appears I would be paying money to ship back a defective product that came apart a month after light usage and I don't think that's right or fair. I think it's important to note that I have a slim head and face and the bows were at no time under stress. I also never wore them on my head – I wore them on a glasses cord.I have included in this email the invoice for the first one that I purchased, photos of it broken, and the second invoice for the one that I bought yesterday to replace that broken one.I don't need a replacement from you, I need a refund for the broken one. I stated in my first email that I have already ordered a replacement.I'm gonna post my review on Amazon.com with this conversation so that others can see what to expect when the product fails.I actually looked at someone's review online and they had experienced the same problem and got a refund. I was hoping to have the same experience. Thanks
