Excellent cornering, good roll, long life
My Niner RDO hardtail came with a Racing Ray up front and a Racing Ralph on the rear. I've run mine tubeless with Stans or Orange Seal. Both sealants work well, but punctures weep more with Schwalbe than other brands I've run. Have not had any burps, blowouts or tears riding Colorado Front Range trails. They hold up well, and provide good rim protection. Not too hard to mount; I've set the bead with only a hand pump on several occasions. After 3,200 miles of trails, three XC races (1,1,2 in clydesdale), and 50 KOMs, the knobs on my Ray finally rounded off to the point that the front end started washing out less predictably in corners. I've been so impressed with the overall performance and durability of the Racing Ray that I immediately bought another. I'm on my second Racing Ray up front, and will soon pick up my third Ralph for the rear. The Ray and Ralph are pretty equally balanced between traction and rolling resistance. They are not particularly biased toward grip or roll, but they do corner exceptionally well for XC tires. Perfect for flowy downcountry trails, fast intervals, and chasing KOMs on shorter segments.Cornering traction is better than any front tire I've owned, including the highly overrated Maxxis Minion I ran on my full suspension bike. The Minion tends to wash out on hardpack at moderate lean angles, while the Racing Ray holds strong at all lean angles. It drifts predictably when it finally does start to let go. The short knobs are not ideal for mud, but they work very well on hardpack and light sandy conditions. The bike is on rails in hero dirt after a light rain. Very little squirm or rollover on pavement. They are a bit narrow when first mounted, but stretch to full width after a few rides. I'm just over 200 lbs and run 21 psi rear/ 18 psi front with no issues. At my weight, this is soft enough for a fast roll (low impedence), but stiff enough to minimize tire squirm/rollover in corners. We just got a little rain, and I'm stoked to have a fresh Racing Ray up front for my ride today!

A wonderful XC MTB Tire for hardtail.
I have a hardtail and I used to use Racing Ralph tires, but the Racing Ray is a better back tire. I love it so far.

2.35 more like a 2.25
I bought one common combo for XCO, Racing Ralph 2.35 Super ground Addix speed for the rear wheel , and this one a Racing Ray 2.35 super ground Addix SpeedGrid, for the front. No issues at all for the Ralph ,however for the Ray, the tyre width at 25 psi using 30mm inner width rims , it is like 57mm (60mm for the ralph), if you compare both tires you can see there is at least 3mm difference between the two, using same rims and same pressure. I double check and the Ray says 2.35 60-622

Awesome front tire. Corners great!
Came in original Schwalbe box. I paired it with a Racing Ralph in the rear, both set up tubeless. They roll smooth and hold traction in the corners even through pine thatch! Definitely impressed with the combo.

Rides well, but way off the claimed size
The Racing Ray rides fine for what it is, but it doesn't measure anywhere close to the indicated size. I know that MTB tires are notorious for missing the mark on sizing, but the 2.35" tire I bought measured (with calipers) closer to 2.2". Not only is that noticeably narrower, but it's really noticeable in the reduced volume of the tire. If you know you want a skinny tire, it's a good one, but I wanted a fast rolling tire that still has some volume to it, and this missed the mark. I'm disappointed, and wish I had bought an old stock Racing Ralph somewhere.
