Finissima Violin Mute

This product is very simple, but it works very very well, better than other violin mute that are plugged on the bridge. I use this mute with my violin Cremona sv 1260 Maestro, and the sound is smoothly but with a high quality, the violin continue sound perfectly. This mute is very elegance, detailed and not is necessary to take out from the violin. I use it permanently. I strongly recommend it if you are looking for a very good violin mute, with a beautiful design.

This mute, in spite of its claims, did not work for me. It is heavy and completely damped my strings. It definitely would not work as a tool to play soft passages, and it is far more expensive than traditional practice mutes, so not a good choice for practicing. Because of its weight, it would not stay in place. I threw it away after testing it.

For me as a fiddler, this mute is almost a requirement when I practice, and also when I play in a session in a tight space such as someone's living room. Violinists and fiddlers need to understand that it is NOT enough mute to be called a practice mute -- but it takes the "edge" off the sound and renders it a bit more mellow, which is often a good idea. I like this on both my fiddles -- the thousand dollar student violin (all I could afford, and plenty of instrument for me), and the hundred dollar second-hand shop one with its littler sound. It is also REALLY easy to manipulate...once you squish it between the two middle strings, under the bridge, you just slide it on and off the bridge when you want to use it. It just stays on the strings, so there's less chance of losing it. Very cool.

Nice mute. Does the job, easy to connect and then disconnect from the bridge. Does not rattle when the violin is not muted.
