Great info, easy to read.
This book is full of great info for dog trainers. If you're just starting out, this will give you a lot of good information on the basics of behavior and body language. After that, it's geared towards more experienced trainers and handlers. It's still good information for less experienced folks, and it's a good way to plant the seed that will grow with time, training, and experience.Even if you're not training service dogs, this book will give you a solid base of information that applies universally to all breeds, ages, and sizes of dogs.

Great intro book to K9 training and handling
Excellent intro to developing good K9 handling skills and reliable results. Also discusses where others go wrong and how dogs learn from results based analysis and how to motovate dogs proplerly to succeed. This makes training better for both handlers and the dogs. I have already recommended this book to dog rescues and with great results.

it is not like back in NE
If I had started earlier with my Chesapeake Retriever...but I had hurt my shoulder/rotator cuff... and when she was a pup....Ishould have been instructing her...but she grew quickly...and I had no place to workher out...it is not like back in NE....here the cactus ruin it for all maneuvers...and she is an aggressive and intelligentretriever...even found a rattlesnake in frozen ground under one foot of snow.. Yep she got bit. Now she is a handful...100 lbs...almost 2 1/2 and has unique mind of her own. So very clever...she has a talent to out think me. I wish I could spend the last 2 years all over again. I love her!She has a heart of gold for some...and for some...she does not like them. Maybe my fault..I do not like the people that she does not like! Thank you.

Good general information about dogs in general, but not as good for understanding your personal pet as Excel-Erated Learning.
Interesting information, but not for everyone. A nice history of animal behavior science and it contains solid behavior information. Also, some useful, but generalized information on dog body language.Excel-Erated Learning by Dr. Pamela Reid is a much better book for understanding dog behavior and how it relates to raising and training dogs at a third the price, around $10. Still, I am glad I read K9 Behavior Basics and plan to read other books by the authors.

Not just for police k9
Great approach to training methodology, started reading when Nesto was 6 months and finished it when he was 10 months. So I took my time and regretted it!Methodology is quite interesting and sets the groundwork.

This is an excellent book on training theory
This is an excellent book on training theory. Although it's not a training manual full of training techniques it's still very interesting and a very good read. I especially enjoyed reading Chapters 6 & 7.

It is "very basic"
The book is "very basic", it summarize very well all basic need to know which is exellent for new trainers. For me that have a big book shell full of "basic" books this was more a good to know of, to recommend to someone who don't want to by so many books in the different areas. But for me it was not so useful for as I hoped because it was "to basic" although it is a very good book.

Very well written. There is a lot of info that was invaluable and made me realize how k9s operate and how I was messing up.
