How long does it take to build?

Will a 6 yr old be able to use this?

With some oversight, yes. It is an assembly where there are instructions that need to be followed, with some explanations and other tips in written form, so it is helpful if the assembler can read, understand, and fully comprehend. Once assembled, there are gearing changes and other adaptations that can be done by a 6-year old after he/she has a basic understanding of the actual workings of the generator assembly. We used this set for a 7th grade science fair experiment, so the assembly was 100% done by my then 13-year old son. But I followed along out of curiosity and I think it could be assembled by a younger set of hands with adult supervision.

The led broke on this contraption, and attaching a new led doesn't seem to work. i tried a 3ohm bulb with no success. suggestions?

When mine broke, I thought it was the LED bulb, but it was actually the motor. It is possible that is what is wrong with yours.

I bought 2 Thames & Kosmos Science kits for a bright 8 year old nephew whose into Science; he was very excited to receive them. I never followed up to ask details about the quality and usage, but friends have said that Thames & Kosmos kits are the better ones of the choices out there.

Very inetersting!

I've selected this item for experiments. When I've got it, I revealed more options for exepriments that it was described on teh site. So, I was surprised! Very good and inetersting item. I'd recommend this item to pupils and teachers.

Great for science project

I purchased this product for my daughter's science project (she's 12). She was able to put it together quickly and thankfully so because the instructions have no words - only pictures. It lasted for a few practice runs then the light stopped lighting up. We took it completely apart and put it back to together with a slight adjustment to one of the washers and it was working great. The class and her teacher were impressed. It's worth the money if you are using it for a project.

Flow tray cheap plastic

Flimsy plastic water tray. I don’t see why this has such good ratings. Got for water power project but demonstration didn’t work well because wheel and water sloughs “meet “ it doesn’t meet right and water is wasted and flows under the wheel .
