America's favorite home-grown humorist/philosopher, Will Rogers, is at his folksy best as a small-town Kentucky judge whose sense of fair play and gentle humor are his trademarks. In this sentimental yarn, the judge manages to smooth the way for a pair of young lovers whose path is made rocky by a disapproving mother, and also cleverly win freedom for a man accused of murder. Stepin Fetchit and Hattie McDaniel add to the old-time flavor of his homespun piece of Americana. John Ford directs with a spirited and affectionate eye for good-old American values.
