Xotic EP Booster Mini EQ Effect Pedal

My bass player has quiet pickups and my bass amp (while plenty load with my bass) was super quiet with his. I added this pedal and voila... plenty loud enough. Way cheaper than a bigger amp.

I bought this pedal simply based on reviews. You could almost say I bought it to prove them all wrong. Everyone spoke so highly of it and made it sound like pure magic. It just all seemed so impossible.Everything you read is 100% right! This pedal IS magic! People talk about buying 2- one to leave on all the time and one to use as a boost. I am considering doing the same. I leave this on all the time. It is impossible to put into words just how much of a difference it makes in your tone. It opens everything up and adds a nice sparkle that lingers warming up your whole sound. I can't bring myself to turn it off. My rig sounds so dull without it now that I've seen the light. Imagine when Dorothy ends up over the rainbow and see the beautiful color for the first time- how could she ever got back to dull, ugly Kansas? That's how it is. I'm afraid if I buy a second one it will just make it sound even that much better and then I'll need to buy a third one... that will just get way out of hand.I would replace this in a heartbeat if anything happened to it. I doubt it will ever break since it is so well built but I could see it getting stolen after someone else hears the magic.

I held off for ages with this pedal purchase. I'm glad I finally picked one up.This is a very basic circuit sort of based on an echoplex preamp. It's similar, but unlike the echoplex it also boosts your signal, which changes its output volume as well as its tone. However, that is not a bad thing for guitarists, especially those playing through tube amps.You can set the pedal to be unity gain or boosted (+3db) when turned all the way down. Even at unity gain you still get a nice clarity and evenness to the sound, like a light compression. There are more powerful boosts out there, but this one feels more refined and purposeful rather than a typical amp-slamming sledgehammer. I can see why people just leave this pedal on, it's like adding another tube to the front of your amp to cook it up just a bit more.

I'm not into pedals all that much anymore. I'm more into playing directly into a great overdriven tube amp and using the volume nob on my guitar to control the drive. But that being said, the Xotic EP booster is a great pedal. The EP booster has become a pedal that I can't live without. It does a great job of balancing the low end and boosting the highs in a way that will make your tone cut through the mix. Jimmi Page, Eddie Van Halen, Eric Johnson have all used the vintage echo plex eq circuit to enhance their tone. This pedal does a great job of recreating that circuit. It does a great job of taking an overdriven vox or peavey (which can sound a little dark)and exciting the right frequencies to make the overdrive in your amp shine. If you're trying to achieve a clean tone from your amp the added break up that this pedal may produce might not be desirable. But on the overdrive channel of an amp like a stock Fender Deluxe 4X10 or Peavey Classic 50, it sounds great. Well anyway, enough said. If you want a boutique amp but your stuck with your stock fender hot rod for the time being this is a great way to enhance it's tone at an affordable price.

I've heard raves about this pedal for years, but I thought it all must be hype. Then I heard a guitar player who used the same gear that I had -- Strat, Tele, and Les Paul into a vintage 1960's Blackface Deluxe Reverb -- but his tone had some "magic" that was missing in my rig. I couldn't wait to talk to him on the break during the gig. It turns out that the EP Booster was the big difference in our rigs. So I bought this while still maintaining my skepticism that it could really be the missing piece to add that extra-special-something to my tone. For the first day it was in my signal chain I was unimpressed. I like the clean boost, but I didn't hear any of what I would call "magic". In fact, I didn't like what it did to my tone, even though it wasn't an in-your-face change. All of that changed on the second day! I switched the internal dip switch to the Vintage setting and found tonal bliss! It made my Strat sound a bit fuller, smoother, and creamier somehow. Now I never turn this pedal off when playing clean-ish tones. It truly is magic!! I'm so enamored with this tone that I've been playing my guitar every single minute I can break away from my work for many days now. "Pleasant, smooth, creamy, full-bodied, rich, fluid..." are all some of the ways I'd describe what this pedal does. I haven't tried this yet with overdrives and distortion because I'm still gob-smacked by what it does to my clean tones, so I can't comment yet on what it does to a distorted signal. Now I'm craving a second unit so I can put one at the beginning of my signal chain and one at the end, with one set to "Vintage" and one set to "Flat EQ". One will be used for the tone it imparts and the other will be a clean boost. For my particular rig, it turned me into a true believer! YMMV.

Super study pedal. Makes tone punchier and thicker. Great for thin sounding single coils. No eq but switches inside to shape tone. Very recommend.

I use this pedal for boosting my amp that's set to a decent amount of overdrive already.A few things to note:1. It's got a very wide range of boost - Upto 20 db2. Over and above that it also has two internal switches that boost 3 db respectively for both Gain & Treble. So that adds on top of the 20 DB you have on the front3. It stays clean only if you set it somewhere below 10 O'Clock after which it adds it's slightly edgy mild breakup4. Running it at 18V instead of 9 will increase the headroom but not in an extreme way5. It's one of those secret sauce pedals that works wonders to coax more from whatever you keep after it in terms of drive so do stack it with a drive into a clean amp.I usually get my amp to drive decently and then kick it with this but with a clean amp, I turn on the Green Rhino and then kick that higher with the EP boost. Works beautifully
