Nice modern example of an old world device - but only as a novelty
Cool Christmas present to my tech son who has everything. Each year I try and find something unique and "old school" random tech for his present so this fit the bill. Very nice modern example of a cryptex but the designers fell short on it's actual secure, undefeatable design. A grade schooler with a clunky pocket knife raided from the kitchen junk drawer could break in without a code by disassembling the exposed screw heads holding the thing together. In fact, it might even disassemble itself if worn daily as suggested by the leather belt loop. The micro sd holder inside the usb port is cool, but would be immediately discovered by someone trying to plug it into a computer, so there's that. But the "Old World Charm" of the device is the reason it was purchased, and as such makes a nice curio gift for the hard to buy recipient. As a side note, his sister and I played with it and had a tough time opening the thing - stumbling on where to adjust the dials to make it work. Finally after about 10 minutes and one "give up", each of us had managed success with the somewhat finicky mechanism. When we proudly showed our triumph to our son that we got it to work, he mentioned that he opened it and locked it back in seconds ! (adult kids in their 20's)Down side is that it doesn't seem to be reprogrammable

I'm a security instructor and got this when it was on sale... for $29.99.Well, what completely sucks about this drive is I showed my daughter and she thought it was as cool as I did. When she came up to me with a $50 bill I couldn't charge her for it... It's Easter and she now has a new drive.I may have to wait for a price drop or buy a new one at full price.Ug... it's really friggen cool and solid protection from drops, etc. as well as a good conversation piece.I love the fact you can swap out the micro SD card to upgrade to a larger size overtime and you don't have to be constrained by the size limit of the Cryptex. It also serves as a multi-function device (not just USB key) to act as an adapter for other people's micro SD card unlike any of the other Cryptex drive. So would I buy it again? Yes. Do I recommend it? Yes... but would like to see it at a price break of $29.99 again as I think that's a great deal at $40 it's still a little high for what it is.

This is a very sturdy unit and it work really well., I'm enjoying it very much. My only issue is that it would have been nice to be able to pick the code so that it is easier to remember, but otherwise its perfect.

I should have ordered this the first time!
This adapter is the way to go. i previously purchased the 16gb Cryptex, but the flash memory died after 4 months. Unfortunately that meant that the entire device was trashed because I could not replace the flash memory. Not so with this adapter, which I bought specifically because I could select the brand of flash memory I preferred and change the memory out as necessary. Also, it was cheaper to order this adapter and my 64Gb microSSD card separately than it was to order the 64Gb Cryptex.

I want to like this - it looks so cool - but the simple truth is that it doesn't work. I plugged my 64gb microSD card into it, plugged into the computer, nothing happened. It won't read. The computer can't seem to see it. I tried it in two different laptops and got the same result - a tone when I plugged it in (showing that the computer is trying to access it) and then nothing happened. I took the micro SD card out and put it into a SanDisk microSD adapter and plugged that into my computer's card reader - it worked fine. So ultimately, this just doesn't work. Oh, and you can't change the combination on it - what you get is what you get.
