Great Transaction
If you like Deep Purple and/or Ian Gillan I will recommend this to you or most any hard rock or metal fan.. This came out during the height of the New Wave of British Heavy Metal and fit in OH so sweetly.. Gillan is a bit more "metal" edged than Deep Purple, but I was ALWAYS able to count on them to deliver the goods as far as interesting riffs and melodies.I think the band's best years were with Bernie Torme' on guitar but this certainly climbs right up there close enough for my satisfaction. Jannick Gers of Iron Maiden Fame certainly holds his own. Either way, I can say for my own listening purposes that all the five Gillan albums from 1978's "Mr Universe" through 1982's "Magic, were 5 star heavy Rock albums..

GREAT , BUT I MISS BERNIE
I didn't think Gillan would be able to replace the great Bernie Torme' but he was able to pull it off . He found future Iron Maiden guitarist Janick Gers for this album. OK , I like Gers , but Torme and Gillan went good together and I loved all their stuff . This cd is an excellent cd from beginning to end .Ian's voice is in classic Gillan form . I think these songs would have fit Torme perfectly , but Gers does do a great job. It does contain some classic Gillan . Songs like "I'll rip your spine out" , "Men of War" and the live versions of "Trouble" , "No Laughing In Heaven" and "Mutually Assured Destruction" are fantastic. Edsel did an awesome job with all these Gillan releases . The remastered sound is great , the bonus tracks are great and the booklets are top notch. They didn't cut any corners with these cd's . CD 1 is the original release plus one bonus track "Spanish Guitar" and cd 2 , the live cd has the original songs plus 5 live bonus tracks. If you are not familiar with Gillan , this or "Future Shock" are good cd's to start with . If I had to pick one of them to start with it would have to be this one. Only because you can hear the studio Gillan and the live Gillan in one package. I am rating this a 4 out of 5 , if Bernie Torme was playing on the whole thing then it would be a 5 (he does play on 3 of the live songs) .

Astonishingly great!!!
This album was recorded live at the Reading FEstival (England), at August 29th, 1981. IT features one of the heaviest moments of Gillan's solo career. The band line-up was Janick Gers on guitar, Colin Towns on keyboars, John McCoy on bass and Mick Underwood on drums. The set list is a perfect blend of metal and rock and roll, it kicks since the start. The only strange thing is that is a live album where you don't hear the audience at all!. But all the tracks are very, very good indeed. It also contains the lyrics. It's a great buy, altough I own just a burned copy, since it's a very hard album to fin (as is the case with most of Gillan's solo career).

The complete double set! A jewel!
This album is half new album / half live album. The first eight songs (up till "Born To Kill") are new studio tracks. And I assure you it?s a great album. The songs are strong and catchy, even if the guitar work is a little bit weak ("courtesy", of course, of Janick Gers, the mediocre guitarist who hit the jackpot when he was chosen to replace Adrian Smith in Iron Maiden). Gillan?s voice was still very strong, the rhythm section of McCoy and Underwood are solid and inspiring. Thre live half is also very good.

Janick Gers and Ian Gillan!
Great album in the heavy metal context. You gotta watch Gillan because he is a musical chameleon. This is not like the early Purple or solo jazz stuff. This is a British heavy metal album with help from Janick Gers (Later to be in Maiden). "Men Of War", "Sunbeam" and the epic "Born To Kill" are the standouts. Also "Nightmare" is a fine track a with a great chorus. I rate it one short than 5 stars because the live tracks at the end are useless, but really it is a 4 and a half anyway.

HEAD BANGER'S MUSIC
This is one the best solo albums of Ian Gillan. It was originally released in 1981. If you're a Gillan fan and a collector, buy it! It's an excellent album!Personnel in this album are; Mick Underwood: Drums, John McCoy: Bass, Colin Towns: Keyboards, Janick Gers: Guitar and of course Ian Gillan on vocals. Some of the nice stuffs are I'll rip your spine out, Nightmare, Sunbeam, Hadely bop bop, Born to kill and No easy way (with a short drum solo by Mick).

OK
Well it looks like I bought my vinyl copy in Germany judging by the catalogue numbers. As ar as I recall I bought this on the basis of "Restless"Ok it's not an essemtial must have but as my vinyl copy now jumps in the middle of "Life goes on ", why when I probably haven't played it in 20 years, I have just now ordered this. For just over a fiver you can't go wrong it would of cost me 69p to download restless anyway. Not sure about "Hadely bop bop though.
