Buy this Guidebook for the Pacific Coast Hwy!
Purchased this book before our LA to Monterey through Big Sur. The author was spot on!! We stopped in Buellton for a cup of Pea Soup Anderson's soup, delicious! The restaurant recommendation in San Luis Obisbo was also excellent! We did most of the sights she recommended in the Monterey area and Big Sur. I don't know if all the Road Trip USA guide books are equally well researched but I would definitely recommend this one to anyone wanting to travel the PCH.

Good info, bad format
The book has some great information in it and I've used it to plan a two-week jaunt along the PCH. I would have rated it higher if the book had been larger. It's about the size of a large paperback book and I was hoping for something that would lay open (it doesn't -- I'd have to break the spine of the book) and that was easier to read (type is a bit small). I ended up going back to my Fodor's book for more information and easier to read.

I like the way the information
I like the way the information, the hi-lights and the maps were segmented going up the coast. Pictorially informative... Thanks

Easy to follow. Gave highlights of the coastal highway. Could have used a little more detail at times

Excellent Buy
Just came back from a 6,000 mile roadtrip with the RV, visiting national parks in the west, and on the west coast. This map was great. Large, and specific in what and where to go. Great product.

Small but effective
Good pocket guide, not much detail but enough for what we needed.

useful, accurate, right amount of information
I bought this 150-page book for the exact journey it's about: driving down the West Coast of the USA from north to south. I found the guide to be mostly accurate and helpful, containing just the right amount of information, in a nice light tone.A couple of little niggles: while one can't expect a trip guide to double as a road atlas, it could have included a bit more detail in the few maps it contained. Also, I had a hard time finding the hostel the book recommended for staying in in Los Angeles, as it was listed under the "Long Beach" section, and there was no indication that the hostel was actually in the neighbouring city of San Pedro. A visit at a petrol station and a call to the hostel sorted me out.

GREAT BOOK FOR THE PCH....
This book is a fantastic guide to the Pacific coast highway and will give you great market for your trip. We did Seattle to San Diego over 28 days and used this to guide and it didn't disappoint. What I would say is source out more hotels options as obviously everyone is different and Jamie's choices didn't really suit us so do more research on accomadition outside this book. As concerns the actual trip though it's near perfect we felt as long as you add some common sense and a little e tra research this book will give you a great trip. All the best.

Buy this book if you're planning this road trip
I've just spent 3 weeks free wheeling down from Port Angeles to San Diego. This book was a great reference and accurate. I went inland a couple of times for Mt St Helens and Yosemite, but for driving Routes 101 and 1, this book is super helpful and May seems the perfect month as much of 101 in WA and OR is your own. I didn't use any of the accommodation suggestions so can't speak to those, just booked motels and the odd nice hotel on the way. Highly recommended.
