Works great; professional-grade
Works great--dense coils mean chunks of ice, fruit pulp, etc., don't wind up in your drink. Solid construction. Cleaning is surprisingly easy; although it filters stuff out of the beverage, the resulting mass does not stay stuck in the coils either. Definitely worth the few extra bucks over the bar strainers with fewer coils.

Best strainer I've ever used
This is the third Hawthorne strainer I've owned and it is easily my favorite. The construction quality is very high and it is finished nicely. What the photo doesn't convey is how generously large the spring is (when you first look at it,it almost seems comical). However, it is this large spring that makes this strainer by far the best one I've ever used as it self-positions itself to slide easily into the mixing tin, and then stays put without the least but of fuss. This all means that you can transfer your drink from the tin to the glass effortlessly, thus preserving all the nice aeration you got during the shake.FWIW, I've tried this in a 28oz tin, and 18oz tin and a 16ox shaker glass--works well in all three.

Better than cocktail kingdom
Absolutely love this Hawthorne! The spring is big enough that it creates a "grab" effect in your tins while straining, it rinses easily even with mint, and is nicely balanced and weighted. Would give 5 stars if only you could remove the spring, but since it's welded into place you cannot.I will get more for my coworkers su they stop using mine!

You get what you pay for
Yes, it's more expensive than almost all the other strainers you've looked at.But as any legit bartender will tell you, a strainer is a key part of the job. You might use it a lot or a little depending on the kind of bar you work at, but anytime you do use it, you need it to work the first time, everytime. This one does that. It feels solid and heavy in your hand, the flat part is large enough to fit over the rim of many different sized glasses - Boston shaker, pint glass, rocks glass, etc. The spring is heavy, and long, there are enough coils to filter out almost all pulp if fruit is your thing, or ice chips.Yes it's expensive, but how many strainers do you buy in a year?

Martini tool
Works well to strain martinis.

Fell apart after a month.
The idea behind the design is sound, but the construction is flimsy. The metal ring that holds the coils in place came open after just a month of light use, so now the coil is coming off.UPDATE: Revised down to one star after the remaining enclosure literally just fell apart in my hand.

Great strainer
I have a shaker with strainer in the cap, but much prefer using this one - easy to get a tight fit and it does a great job staring out pulp, ice, etc. I looked at several different types and chose this one - I’m happy with my choice. It feels sturdy and was a fair price. Also easy to clean. I highly recommend!
