My "charming" answer to sneaky teenagers
This is a very loud, clean and crisp "ding". Honestly, I bought two of these bells for my home to mount over my front door and the other over the door that comes into the home from the garage into the family room. You see, I have two remaining teenagers, and the sixteen-year-old girl is tending to sneak out at night on occasion. Any of you fathers with a sixteen-year-old daughter know how reasonable they are to talk to - HA! So I opted to tell the kids, "Oh, this is just a nicer home security alert than those digital, electronic alarms." They don't like it, but that wasn't the goal. When they, or somebody else, comes in, everyone in the house will know.My wife liked the idea, but the "ding" is too loud for her and will have to be brought down with some tape inside the bell or something. It will drive us nutty in no time if we leave it as is. It is probably best used as intended, which is in a store with some bustling background noise where this bell will shine.

Perfecrt Bell for Puppy to Ring to Go Outside
I purchased this little bell to install low to the ground by my back door so my little puppy could alert me to his need to go outside to potty. It has a charming sound but is loud enough to get my attention and because of the location my dog can easily nudge it with his nose to get me to open the door. The first time he did this by himself I jumped for joy and was so grateful to have found such a sweet little bell perfect for the job!

Does the job
The bell does the job. It is loud. Even if you close the door gentle it will do a lower sounding chime. Almost in possible for someone to get in without the bell dinging. Maybe a ninja could; but how many ninja's are going into stores?

Loud and solid!
I got this as a gift for my wife, almost as a lark. But we put it up and it is a legit shopkeeper's bell. Even the slightest brush with the door sends a tinkling sound throughout the house. It's going to be perfect in the summer -- we often let the dog out into the yard and keep the door just slightly closed. When she comes in we'll know and can go shut it. Plus it's just charming as heck.

Security Bell On Backyard Gate
I put this on the inside of my privacy fence gate, and now it sings out when the gate is opened. I can't lock the gate due to Public Service easements in my backyard. I can't necessarily hear it from inside the house, but it makes enough noise that I imagine it to be a very helpful deterrent to anyone trying to enter the yard with bad intentions.

Great bell! Sounds old timey!
Great bell, sounds old timey, we have it for the front door of our retail location, sounds so much nicer than the electronic ones.

Higher Tech Is Not Always Better
I tried one of those motion sensing devises at the office. What a loud and obnoxious noise that was! After a few hours packed it up and sent it back to the office supply store. This is so simple and elegant at a third of the price.
