It says usb overload charging more than 5a not allowed. how many phones, headphone or tablet is that etc?

HI It generally charge three cell phones.

I have a lamp that has usb ports but for the ports to work the light has to be on all the time instead of just plugged in - is it the same with this?

This lamp has an individual switch on the lamp base to control the light，the usb ports can be used whether the light is on or off.

Does this have an usb C

Yes it does have a usb C connector and two normal usb sockets. I don't use this lamp for charging, as it makes my phone go crazy, and I don't trust it not to ruin it.
