Frog and Toad All Year: A Beloved Early Reader About Friendship in Winter, Spring, Summer, and Fall Seasons (I Can Read Level 2)

I’m not from the U.S. and didn’t grow up with the Frog and Toad stories, but a friend recommended Frog and Toad All Year for my daughter, and I’m so glad they did because she was completely captivated from the very first story. Even without the nostalgia many readers have, I found the book charming, warm, and unexpectedly funny, with simple little lessons that are easy for young kids to understand. The seasonal chapters kept her engaged, and the illustrations added so much personality that she kept asking for “just one more.” It quickly became a favorite in our home, and I can see why families have loved these characters for decades.

The wondersful Frog and Toad books reign supreme! So glad to introduce them to my grandchildren!

The older I get, the more I love these stories and telling them to kids. They reveal so much about human nature and friendship and are quite humorous in a slow paced, comforting way.

This is my favorite Frog and Toad book. My student loved the changes in seasons, especially the Christmas chapter.

This series is great for children. My three year old loves the stories and laughs at all the things they do. My five year old also loves them, and will be able to start learning to read from them. They short and sweet and make it easy for kids to follow along and not get bored.

Absolutely beautiful stories. Recommended for not only children but also adults, especially for those stressed ones. This book helps bring back sweet childhood memories and a little smile on your face. Be a bit centimental and cry, then smile, it'll cleanse your heart & soul.

My sons just love this book. It is one that they keep coming back to and at a guess I would say the best age range to hold interest would be from about 2-7. We particularly like the story called Ice Cream where Toad goes to buy himself and Frog cones and comes back resembling a monster as it melted all over him! The pictures and text are simple but delightful. Quote: 'One hot summer day Frog and Toad sat by the pond.' The short stories always have good, funny, outcomes and inspire further questioning and conversation. There is an innocence and kindness in these stories that is displayed perfectly on a level that children will be able to understand and relate to. There are also quite a few marked differences in the personalities of Frog and Toad and yet they always stick together and remain firmest of friends, despite disagreeing at times. I just love the way that Lobel writes. Great for the children and the parent, as I really enjoy reading these to the children too, they're not the kind of dull 'ultra modern' stories where repetition sends you bonkers as the storyline is so lacking! They are also meant to be reading level 2 books (American) so will be useful later on for my children to read themselves, but as story books go, they certainly do the job well. I am definitely thinking of buying these books (we have the others in the Frog& Toad series) for my boy's friends. Not so well known in my library or in bookshops, but I am so glad I came across them. If you have a toddler or primary school aged child, and are looking for some first decent story books, he or she will not be disappointed. Five short but pleasant stories make up one book. A bargain price too.
