Better than Zanex...
I had already called my doctor to ask for some medication for my anxiety.....then the book arrived.....interestingly on the afternoon following my second surgery to clean up the margins of my lumpectomy.....I am 30% of the way through this book. I wish that I had started reading it 8 weeks ago. The author offers a frank, well thought out personal discussion of breast cancer for those of us with early stage breast cancer. She attacks the subject with a matter of fact no holes barred attitude which is remarkable. Thankfully much of what she has suggested to do in the early days of diagnosis is what I have already done but I will use this book as my bible as I go forward over the next weeks and months. No one gets it like someone who has been through it. Now I want her to write a book for those who are trying to support a friend or family member with breast cancer. I have had to push away a number of people who have said things which are less than helpful...Thank you for writing this book. I treasure it and will most likely not use the pharmaceutical route now to healing my soul.

if you are just going to buy one book...
...get this one. I have bought over 10 books since my diagnosis but this is the one i return to often. Not only is it knowledgeable but it is also VERY user friendly (unlike say, Dr. Susan Love's book which is a LOT more material to try and get through) This book was like sitting down with a good, funny and smart friend who had done the journey before me and was there to help me through the rough parts...just what is needed in those first few weeks of diagnosis.

Great book for breast-cancer patients
This is an excellent book for anyone who is facing a breast cancer issue. When I read it, I had been recently diagnosed and I hung on every word. There are interesting, medical fact sheets written by a doctor included in every chapter. And there is a good referral section and index at the end. There are thousands of books on cancer out there, but this is an excellent place to start if you are a patient or friend of a patient.

An essential companion
This book has been my bible and my friend in my journey through early-stage breast cancer. Deborah Cohen's tone is companionable, empathetic but also realistic and factual -- just the right combination of qualities for a book on the difficult topic of breast cancer. It's filled with valuable practical advice and resources. Of all the many, many books I bought (information overload is a part of the experience, as Cohen describes), it's the one I continue to turn to for support.

Practical tips delivered with a sense of humor
This book was recommended to me when I was going through breast cancer. It delivers some really good practical advice. It is like having a good friend who has battled cancer talking to you friend to friend. The author uses practical tips with a sense of humor. One great tip was about sucking on ice chips during a particular chemo drug to help prevent mouth sores. It worked! I donated several copies to the Cancer Center and have bought copies for friends after they are diagnosed with breast cancer.

Great book to BEGIN after early diagnosis for early staged
I was diagnosed a few weeks ago. Although family members have been through bc. I need information detached from emotion. I have devoured many books meant for those newly diagnosed. By far, this is one of the best out there for newly diagnosed with early stage 1 breast cancer. Not specific for those bc that are considered by medical professionals to be serious.

This book was encouraging until I learned I had Stage ...
This book was encouraging until I learned I had Stage IV. Then I needed I little bit more knowledge on alternate cancer therapies and orthodox medicine had so little to offer and didn't believe I would "get through" it.

If you don’t have this book yet, get it!
This book has been a godsend. Not only does it offer tips on the medical and physical journey but it heartily addresses so many of the mental processes that take place for a patient. I really related with so much of this. I highly recommend this book.

Does exactly what it says on the tin
This is a lovely little book which does exactly what it says on the tin - I hadn't realised that so much would only be relevant to an American audience.

1st Book To Get When You Are Diagnosed #1
"Just Get Me Through This" is the first book that I always recommend when someone I care about has been diagnosed with breast cancer. As a breast cancer survivor myself - people often ask me "what should I do now" and this is my first recomendation for a book. The sooner you get it the better as the writers walk you through so many steps and help you prepare from the diagnosis, surgery, chemo, radiation, reconstruction. There is even sections for teh family/care givers. I often suggest that you buy 2 copies one for you and one for your spouse. Just a wonderful down earth approach to the many steps and decisions you will need to make. Even recommendation on what to do with the side effects. There are many more books that can come after but start here! The only thing that I wish was different is that it was available on kindle for quicker access. If they ever wrote another book I would want on for all cancer in general so it could help more people.Great book - I have bought, gifted or recommended over a hundred copies!
