Solberg FS-06-050 Filter Silencer, 1/2" MPT Outlet, 3-13/16" Height, 3-1/4" Diameter, 12 SCFM

Replaced an old, chinesium air filter on my Alton 25 gallon oil-filled air compressor. The Solberg is larger and makes the compressor quieter -- it's still loud, but quiet enough now that hearing protectors are not as necessary.

Perfect fit, sounds less noisy

Great design and build quality. Not a cheap import. Nice heavy gauge steel. The air inlet turns out to be a tuned port; it keeps the noise down by turning the intake pulses into a smooth flow. It doesn't quiet the mechanical noise of course but I didn’t realize how much of my compressor noise was inlet noise! I just wanted a filter and was pleasantly surprised by how much the noise level went down. No noticeable restriction. Compact and easy to install. Far better than the broken plastic OEM filter housing it replaced. Nothing bad to say about it. And it’s just a few dollars more than the cheap imported knockoffs! Don’t hesitate. Get the real thing. You’ll be glad you did.

Works great with my air compressor

This was purchased as a replacement for the original plastic inlet filter on an air compressor. I broke the original by dropping an item from above. The Solberg unit is all metal and seems solidly built. I used teflon tape on the 1/2" pipe threads as this is connecting to an aluminum head on the air compressor. I won't make claims about how quiet this has made the compressor. It was quiet before. I would probably need a sound level meter to tell you if this is any quieter. I could have purchased the exact replacement item I broke - but as I was researching this and found the Solberg, the apparent quality of construction intrigued me. I paid more for this product, but I am well satisfied with what was delivered.

I have been running my 30 gallon Husky compressor in my small shop for years - always without an air filter / muffler. WOW, does this ever make a huge difference! I would always plug in the compressor and walk away to let it get up to operating pressure because it was so loud. Now it is 75% quieter. If you have a loud compressor, just pull the trigger and buy this item - you will thank yourself later.

I am replacing this identical filter on my Jeep's on-board air compressor (built from a junkyard York 210) only because the previous one I had for 7 years was smashed into the hood when I broke a motor mount. I had nothing but good things to say about this Solberg filter, and based on the dents in the underside of my hood it gave as good as it got. I probably would have been able to bend the old one back into shape enough to get the cover to stay in place, but it actually tore the metal where the threaded outlet joins the filter body. This time, I'm going to be adding some additional plumbing to get the filter a little lower and farther away from the hood. Without the filter, the York compressor does have a slightly higher pitched whine to it, so there do appear to be some noise-suppression qualities to this filter, but that was not my primary purpose for this purchase - I don't want unfiltered air going into my compressor! I didn't realize that this came with the filter media already installed so I bought another one based on Amazon's "Frequently Bought Together" suggestion, but oh well - now I guess I have a spare.

It took me awhile of searching to find a decent air compressor inlet filter that was usable. The cheap junk from China are sketchy at best and will break your compressor at worst. Don't get me started on the junk filters available. I could not find just the filter. I could only find the filter and housing. My HF filter was junk and so were the 3 replacements they sent me after 2 tries. They were all poorly constructed and would leak. This filter housing is good quality and should stand up to years of use. FS means Filter with Silencer (little plastic inlet to deflect sound), the 06 denotes Solberg filter size 06. I had to visit the Solberg website to make sure I could get extra filters the correct size. The Amazon description could use that important piece of information to sell more filters. This is much larger than the one that came with my HF oiled compressor. Overall, impressed (standard severely reduced due to Chinese junk products imported by lazy dishonest American importers) and highly recommended for your compressor. Pay attention to the CFM and thread size.

The images speak for themselves...size, build quality, fit & finish, sheet metal thickness; everything is superior with the Solberg. Why would you want to protect a compressor worth hundreds of dollars with an el-cheapo piece of junk? A false economy. I suggest you spend approximately ten more dollars and get a filter that does a good job, is easy to maintain, and will last a long time.

Excellent quality made in North America. This item will most likely outlive me.
