the background and concepts chapter is the most useful to me
As an experienced system administrator moving to Configuration Manager 2012 R2 with some exposure to older versions, the background and concepts chapter is the most useful to me.But I need a different angle. The example environment used throughout the book is fine I guess, and it tells you exactly which buttons to press, but since it spoon-feeds the answers to each choice to be made without much general discussion, I was still unsure of what options to take for my own work environment.I think this would be an excellent coursebook for a class with a lab.

SCCM Noob, very happy!
Just got this book and almost immediately was impressed. Unlike some of the comments I am a point and click type of guy so the content structure is great for me. I don't have many years of actually server or SCCM administration so this book really does fit the "SCCM Admin noob" in me and has opened me up to a whole new journey of Systems Management. It also is a great reference for getting the SCCM certification as well.

Good way to learn SC
Good way to learn SC, but understand before you purchase, you will need to setup the lab outlined in the book in order to take advantage. If you have a VMware or Hyper-V environment in place then this is the way to go.

OUTSTANDING BOOK
I really don't write a lot of reviews, but this book deserves it. I have not even read the entire book yet and I have already given 5 stars. This book is for Beginning, Intermediate and Advanced Sccm Engineers. Keep up the good work Kent this book is a keeper, with that being said, I am going to order another book, just in case something happens to my original.

Condescending and Repetative
Gave up after chapter 4. Very condescending and repetitive. There is a lot of "do this" and "do that" without the information as to why you are doing this and that. There is nothing along the way for trouble shooting should something not work as expected.I have since purchased "Mastering System Center 2012 R2 Configuration Manager" from Amazon. The layout and format of this 2nd book is a lot easier to understand with gives clear instruction on what it is we are doing and why. Just my opinion.

this book was recommended to me by a peer
As a first time admin of SCCM, this book was recommended to me by a peer. It really helped with the initial install and configuration ready for basic client deployments.Since this book is aimed at the fundamentals, it certain helped with understanding the principles of management.well worth buying this for first time deployments of SCCM, and it seems to still be perfectly valid for 2012R2 SP1 as well.

Fantastic SCCM guide for enterprise installations
Wish I'd had this book when I initially setup my SCCM servers. This book is so clear and very well written. The sections are well defined with extremely detailed explanations with lots of screenshots of how to configure every main aspect of SCCM. I've used it to improve my initial installation and my overall understanding of the product. Thoroughly recommended

This is a really good book which give you step-by-step instructions on how to get SCCM, the most complex of Microsoft's applications, up and running. Through Viamonstra, a mythical company, we are shown how to set up the many moving parts of Config Manager and 'kick the tyres' in a test lab. If you want to learn more of the why, it may be helpful to use this book in conjunction other, more traditional titles, which will help in this respect. Also, the forum is very helpful and the author does reply to questions.

Great detail
Excellent book for detail and giving you the information to set up SCCM but the scripts do too much and this makes trouble shooting harder for me.
