Drawing and Painting with Watersoluble Media

Well-worth the price!
I'm pleased with this book because I have been researching water soluble media. It seems to be a scarcity of books on these. I can learn from videos on YouTube but I retain it better if I can read about it. Fiona gives a good description of those she includes, but there are still a number of materials missing, such as watercolor crayons, gel sticks and more. It was p. 48 when I "fell in love" with the author! I also enjoy getting acquainted with my materials by making color charts and her recommendation for doing so is very wise. I'm so glad I bought this book!

I'm Really Glad I Bought This Book!
I buy far too many of these art books, and have been trying to cut back - but I am very glad I bought this one! At 144 pages (don't know why the description says 128 - mine has 144) there is plenty of material to suit different types of readers. One critique addresses the use of different types of art supplies, such as watercolor and Inktense pencils: rather than seeing it as expensive to duplicate, I see this book as an invitation to look at what you have and try experimenting, using your supplies innovatively. There are great ideas and pictures to inspire your imagination.

Lovely book and an interesting twist on the typical watercolor book.
I have not read all the way through this book yet (just received it a few days ago), but so far I am really enjoying it and am learning some new techniques. The artwork is really beautiful and inspiring. If you are a much more experienced watercolorist than I am, some of the information may not be new, but if you haven't tried the water soluble pencils and sticks, you may want to take a peek at this book as a way of integrating some non-traditional media in your paintings. I can't wait to try this myself.

Best book on Water based media out there in my ...
Best book on Water based media out there in my opinion. I teach a water based course, and I use this as my "class text". It has excellent visuals, the information is well organized (it covers a large range of media). It isn't necessarily project based, so if you are looking for that the Quiller book might be better. But if you want a more encyclopedic focus to water based media, tools, techniques, this is the one.

"Light" Instruction and Coverage
I like Fiona's work, but I had to return this. I expected deeper instruction from such a seasoned artist and something about water soluble oils. Everything appears to be done on watercolor paper. I think the title of this book needs rework. She uses inktense, artbars, watercolor pencils, watered down acrylics, but I found nothing about water soluble oils and using on canvas, alternative substrates.

" Inspirational ideas in the book are good.
Called for a lot of not-so-easy to find supplies around here. Note that the author is from Britain (I think) so their art materials are evidentally more widely available than mine are here. I would need to go to a specialty art supplies place--not to Michael's or JoAnn. My first thought was, "this could get expensive!" Inspirational ideas in the book are good.

Including More Than a Pencil with Watermedia
New, exciting, and innovative ideas for the beginner as well as more experienced artists await the reader. Lots of tips on using Inktense, too, which is helpful for anyone who has not included the pencils in their bag of tricks.

Definitely Worth Buying
This book is packed with information on differnt water soluble media. It has encouraged me to try pencils, art bars and the rest in my painting to give them more texture and interest. Definitely worth buying.
