A most excellent read!
‘Dragon School: First Flight’ is a compelling YA fantasy adventure story. Filled with danger, excitement amd discovery, this book introduces Amel Leafbrought, a teenage girl embarking on life as a trainee dragon rider.Amel does not see herself as heroic, yet she is. She does not allow her disability to limit either her dreams or her determination, nor does she give in to the taunts from those who cannot see past it. She does, however, allow herself to express the fear and misery that is all-too-familiar to those who bear the brunt of discrimination and bullying. The reader develops empathy with Amel not because of the way in which others treat her, rather than because of her disability, purely because while her physical limitations are challenging, they are not the greatest cause of distress to her. The ways in which she responds to both kinds of challenge are generally positive and proactive, and allow her individual qualities to shine. The realisation that she has abilities others do not is a source of encouragement to both Amel and the reader. The author has portrayed the best and the worst qualities of humanity in the characters that make up the cast of the story. Some are kind, some are hateful, while others are indifferent for various reasons. In this, a fact of life is portrayed quite realistically: each of us has to work out who we can trust, who we cannot, and who are our allies if we are to find our path in life and navigate it successfully.‘Dragon School’ captivated my imagination as powerfully as I remember Harry Potter doing when I first read it, but it is most definitely not a “copycat” concept. There are so many elements of this book that work really well. The world building is unique and interesting, the social systems are complex and fascinating at the same time, the complications and challenges are dangerous, and the things for which Amel and her peers must strive are important.I am excited to see this narrative develop and expand, and to see Dragon School and Amel become the enormous success that it deserves to be.This series is now on my “one-click”list, and all who love YA fantasy, magic, and dragons should ensure it is on theirs, too.

Great new series!
This is the third series from this author for me and I am seriously hooked. This story is a great beginning of a new series and I cannot wait for the next one. It is a bit shorter than I am used to but it contains all world building and character development of a longer story. I have no idea how the author managed to accomplish that in only 100 pages but the story is intense and very interesting. The author invented yet another new fresh and original concept, I haven't encountered before. Or maybe I did but it was not this well written. In any case, reading Sarah Wilson's new book is always like a ride on a brand new roller coaster for the first time. Amazing, as is her writing style.Dragon School series features Amel, an amazing girl of the slightly weaker body but strongest will and spirit yet known. She is brave beyond comparison and she never gives up. Then there is magical dragon Raolcan and their adventures. Great beginning of the series and I highly recommend it.The series should be read in order: Dragon School: First Flight (Dragon School #1), Dragon School: Initiate (Dragon School #2), Dragon School: The Dark Prince (Dragon School #3), Dragon School: Ruby Isles (Dragon School #4), Dragon School: Sworn (Dragon School #5) and more books have been announced.

What an exciting new series!
What an exciting new series! I blew quickly through this book and can’t wait for the next. It left off kind of abrupt, but regardless I’m definitely going to be watching for the next book. Amel has a strong sense of knowing what she wants and will do what she needs to get it. I liked how confident she was in her trials and when she wasn’t sure she calmly thought through it. Amel has a disability but it doesn't overwhelm the story and instead leads to a nice story where the character has confidence and perseverance to continue on with their dreams. Dragons are always fun to read about and when you get to meet this dangerous dragon you’ll probably fall in love. He and Amel are definitely my favorite characters. If you’re looking for a fast paced and entertaining read then visit this new dragon world today!I would recommend this for readers of young adult fantasy or those who are fans of Eragon or How to Train Your Dragon.Dragon School: First Flight is the first book in the Dragon School series.Final Rating: 5 Stars

Warning, once you start, you won’t stop
This review is for the whole series. I’m not sure where to begin. We start with a young disabled girl on her first day of Dragon School. The story seems simple at first. But as it flows you find yourself drawn right in. I couldn’t get it out of my mind. The story is so creative and in no way predictable. The characters, both human and dragon, will steal your affections. The antagonists are well written. My words are poor, but just suffice it to say, the series is worth reading. I’m 52 and as swept away as the younger target audience.

Dragon partner
A handicapped girl signs up to become a dragon rider. If she fails, she either dies in training, or can become a servant to those who pass. It's not an easy decision to make, especially considering her physical limitations. This is a quick shortish read (purposely done to split the book episodically), but it did a great job introducing the characters and setting. The dragon is a sentient being and forms a relationship with the MC. Having to choose between servitude or strenuous physical feats that she can barely contemplate was nicely addressed. This sounds like a great series so far. On the one hand, I'd prefer a full book, but I do see the benefits of smaller sized story bites - it doesn't leave off on a cliffhanger, and so it won't keep me up too late at night.
