Works great.
Works as it should. Makes centering the base easy as long as you use it correctly. If you've never used one before, go watch a UTube video first. Steel pin that works in 1/4 and 1/2 collets. The cone is plastic and feels very durable. I like this sliding design. I find it much easier to use than the solid metal ones.

You could make one, but why?
I am not a router expert, and I didn't know what the heck this thing was. Maybe you're in the same boat, because it is not explained very well. This product is a guide that goes into your router's collet so that you can precisely center the base plate on the router when you change it out. There are a variety of reasons that you may need to do this, such as bolting the router base to a router table, or switching out the base plate to one that will accept Porter-Cable style template bushings. If none of that made sense to you (I didn't know what a template bushing was until last week!), do some YouTube research. Your router does way more than you thought it could, and usually needs a $20 accessory or two to unlock a lot more potential. This thing will help you get the most out of those accessories. You could make one of these, and I've seen several examples of people who have DIY'ed their own. That's fine, but for a $6 accessory that's dead-on accurate, why would you waste the time and materials to reinvent the wheel? This was a great purchase, and I've already used it several times.
