My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic Vol. 4

Great Art. Stories are okay.
The art direction remains stellar in this fourth volume of the Friendship Is Magic comics. Lots of bright vibrant colors and sharply drawn characters. The facial expressions convey emotion excellently. The comics themselves are split in to two two comic story arcs. The first involving pirates and the second a bookworm run amok. The comics have the distinction of having more humor aimed at an older demographic. I doubt the show's target demographic is familiar with Star Trek. And in the first volume of the comics, there were references to David Bowie. If you're an adult fan of the show, it's a welcome bonus. It's like a wink and a nod to the bronies among us.However, the book does loose some points on the story side. The first story arc is basically a reverse Little Mermaid meets pirates. It isn't particularly inspiring. The second story arc is more interesting and involves entering books to stop an unintentionally destructive bookworm. The writers give themselves a bit more free reign here to let the story take them where it will.It isn't bad, but I enjoyed the earlier volumes more.

More MLP Comics Fun
This trade collects 2 full story arcs. The first one is just okay, a little disappointing for a pirate adventure but still enjoyable; the art style isn't my personal favorite. The second one has art I really like and the story is fantastic; it's packed with puns, geeky jokes, literary references, and funny background shenanigans. I like that anyone could pick up this volume and not worry about missing part of an ongoing story. Recommended for MLP fans or anyone looking for a good, witty, sweet, funny comic.

Great Comic book
I tend too always wait on the collected volumes of comics instead of buying single issues. Volume 4 of this MLP series was very cool, It also happens I'm a lover of pirate stuff. The character of Hoof beard ( though a blatant Jack Sparrow rip ) was very nice & totaly made me want to get a figure of him. Rainbow dash was my absolute favorite in the pirate story she seemed to totally be in her element. The second story was an awesome story book fantasy that seemed to reference every popular piece of media out there. I especially liked the Evil Queen. Good book for kids & adults. Plus I really like the artwork of Brenda Hickey & Amy Mebberson. Over all very nice collected volume.

Excellent Book
Bought for my grandson, who loves My Little Pony. He is an aspiring children's author, even though still only 11 himself. Boys who love MLP are called Brony's, he has learned, and even grown men like MLP.I watch it too, it is a very well done cartoon and great for kids. These books are excellently done and he loves them. He has them on his Kindle App on his Ipad Mini, so great color display for reading pleasure.

Always a Joy
Just like all the other fantastic comics that have come out for My Little Pony, this was a great read that had me entertained all the way through and highly satisfied by the end of the book. Definitely one of the better stories that have been told so far in this series.

My kids love these graphic novels
My kids love these graphic novels. I like that they aren't Captain Underpants with the horrible mis-spelled words or Diary of a Wimpy Kid that might influence your child to think the tricks played on other characters are funny and not hurtful.

Don't hate this, but finding it hard to say I "love" it.
Once again I come to an MLP comic and I have to gauge my criticism of it, because I don't hate this comic, it's not "bad" it's just not as good as the previous entry. I certainly hope it doesn't go like this for all the Volumes, because that would become bad very quickly. Not to insult Heather Nuhfer, but she is the lesser of the writers on the comics and I certainly don't hate the artists as Brenda Hickey and Amy Mebberson give a nice change to Andy Price's work.Like I said, I don't hate the stories in this one, but the writing seems to point to more of the cliche aspects than the fantasy aspects. Seeing an overly timid and obsessive Fluttershy brings her character down somewhat in my eyes. If you like the more sugary stuff and silly stuff compared to the previous entries, even with their silly stuff, this is for you.
