I love solar JOOS!
This item is a tad heavy but it is good!! I charge my nexus 7, my samsung note 2 without problem!Looks very good, easy to hang it on your backpack and with that steel hole on the side, I can easily secure it to a fixed item with a steel cable and leave it outdoors until I need it.I own a few of the china made solar charger cheapo and not of them really charges efficiently. It hold a good size battery bank, charges up my phone fast. The best thing is this solar joos has legs to enable you to prop them to catch the sunlight! Save me finding rocks or branches to prop it up! (there is nothing to prop up the goal zero guide 10/Normad 7!)When you read other reviews of it being a essential item during a zombie apocalypse, being able to kill a panther with it, it is true! I leave it in my car in sunny Singapore, it get so hot to touch, but after cooling down, it is still working. I leave it in the rain because i forgot to keep them, it works after. I become so dependent on it that I feel uneasy without having a solar joos.Actually this was my second Solar Joos, the first one actually died when it fell 6 stories down. I was securing it with a steel cable and it slipped out of my hands. When I went downstairs to pick it up, I was expecting smashed bits and pieces of Solar joo, amazingly all was intact. The solar panel did not even have hairline cracks! I found some cracks on the black part of the body and buffs on the white plastic. Otherwise not much physical damage. I was hoping it would work but sadly it did not.I tested it the next day and it would do a slow red blinking and could not hold a charge even if you charge it with a wall socket.I dont know what I can do with it now. So I am just leaving it around the house. The software to check the charge is a good and at the very least it give me a number to know how much % of the battery I charge that day! I also own a goal zero guide 10 with Nomad 7 solar. With the guide 10 battery pack ,there is no way to know how much it is charge except by a green blink ( 80- full), orange blink ( low), red(empty). I feel more assured bringing the solar joos out when I know it hold 92% battery then with a guide 10 pack holding green light. Both are very unique in their own way, and I like them both! I do not have to worry if it is raining on the joos but if it rains, i better keep my Goal Zero because of the guide 10 in exposed to rain. Goal Zero is light and easy to carry around.I once connected the Joos to a portable battery pack hoping the Joos would charge it. I get a soft whine and the battery pack no longer works. Only way for a joos to charge AA battery would be via a USB AA battery charger but I cant find them in pack of 4. Charge them 2 at a time would be a waste of time. Something the Goal Zero can do easily. If you can decide between both, be like me! Own both of them and get 1 to charge your phones and one to charge you rechargeable AA batteries!

honest review
Well I guess I will be the odd ball. I bought this unit for recharging my droid3 and I have to say it DID work. However the one gripe I have is the connector. The usb connector is very flimsy and sometimes wont make good contact. For example once I was down to 30% on my droid and I hooked it up. I waited for it to do its job. When I came back my droid was down to 10%. I looked at the cable and everything LOOKED connected however upon further examinations I found that when I wiggled the connection to the Joos the droid would show charging the show not charging. I tried diffrent cables and it was the same. It turned out the connector to the joos is very flimsy. They should have stuck to a more robust connector like a traditional usb connector. Don't get me wrong the solar portion works wonderful. You just have to make sure you have a good connnection.

Portable power
It is a well packaged durable unit. Some solar units feel fragile, not this one. Back packers may not like that its not the lightest unit around. But I feel it's worth the extra for the robust construction. I have left it at base camp to charge during the day and recharged my phone and GPS at night off the built in battery pack. Charging is quicker when using solar directly. Took care of my power needs exclusively for a week. That weather included overcast, no sun days and some drizzle. The built in Eye hole is awesome for hanging it with a carabiner, cordage or security cable passed thru. I have also used it on my tractor and it kept my phone/MP3 going for a good 12 hours. When I finally quit for the day both units were fully charged. My biggest annoyance was upon receiving it I immediately discovered it didn't have a IPhone lightning connector. ( it did come with a small variety of connectors) Although it had a USB connector it wont charge plugging in a USB to lightning cord that comes with your device. So I had to order the adapter and it worked flawlessly. If I had known what connectors came with it I could have immediately purchased what I needed when I ordered the unit.I gave it 4 stars because of the adapter issue and lack of information about adapters supplied.

Disapointed!!!!
I was super stoked when my girlfriend got me this orange joos as a gift! The first time i used it it worked great with out a hitch! and charged my iphone4s fast. The second time I tried to charge my phone I plugged it in and it started charging, when I came to check if it was done it had stopped charging after about 10% gain and was sitting idle. I had to unplug the mini usb and plug it back in! It charged for another 2% gain before stopping again. Did this for a little while before giving up!!! Not so stoked on my gift anymore!!
