HHIP 4400-0025 1" Dial Indicator and Magnetic Back Set

I'm always using these things and these seen to work fine for me.

Great for checking end play on 3516C’s when doing start up’s.

I replaced the contact point with a flat one and use it with a 1-2-3 block to set the height of the blades and feed rollers in my 15" wood planer. Works great, and unlike the dedicated indicators for planers, I can use it for other things around the shop.

I bought this to play around with. I like that. it has a magnet on the back. I used it to check the accuracy on my mag drills And drill press. it told me the information I needed to know. I thought it was a good buy for the price.

Seems to work well, sticks nicely to the side of the ways and the big dial is easy to read. I'm sure it's not as smooth as one that costs 4x (Mitutoyo) or 7x (starrett) but I never need more than a couple thou tolerance so getting this is like a super power. I'll probably buy another one for the cross slide.

Don’t buy this. The whole point of this dial indicator is magnetizing the piece to a tool, but the magnet is far far too strong. I’m a strong person with large carpenter hands. I could not pull the magnet straight off my table saw. Instead, the stupid press-fit plastic joint that holds the indicator to the magnetic base broke free. There was no glue. No screw to thread into, just a threaded knurled screw press fit into a plastic circle. Once it breaks free, you can’t reinstall it. That is, without probably damaging the caliper. These tools are not for brute force type work. These are supposed to be precision tools. Yanking hard on a giant magnet or pressing hard on the tool to reinsert it is terrible design. In fact, it’s lack of design. Awful product. Pointless by failed design

Has a strong magnet to hold it to the mill or lathe bed. Very useful if you don't have a digital read out.

I bought several of these mag back indicators for my school metal shop. The mag backs are not well secured to the indicator. So far two of them have come apart when you try to remove the indicator from in our case the metal lathe ways. The last one came apart on me and I was being quite gentle with it.

Works as intended good strong magnet only complaint it needs to have a split magnet to go on curved surfaces
