This is a great tool. It is very specialized, but when you have the purpose of skinning and gutting in mind, this knife is safe and effective. I just don't let my wife get near it. She can cut herself on the back side of a butter knife.

Buck down, it's like using a zipper

This new model with the larger handle is perfect. Keeps you from cutting into the muscle while skinning. I used it to skin several deer this season and the original blade is still sharp. I ave recommended it to several of my friends and they have not been diapointed. Reminder the work starts when you pull the trigger , this little knife makes the work a lot easier.

Looks good but I have not used it

This thing makes zipping Bambi open a breeze. And it's great for skinning as well. Trick is to leave the cover on the blade you're NOT using so you don't slice yourself up. Big padded "ergonomic" handle is much easier to hold onto when you're up to your wrist in viscera - old "brass knuckle" model can be dangerous. Replacement blades are available so there's no sharpening. Saves time and works better than the expensive gut hook knives, which have their own safety concerns. OK so it doesn't have the macho appeal of a gigantic Bowie with a horn handle, but it's tons more useful and if you're over 14 you get it.
