Firmer refers to mid-weight, all-purpose bench chisels. They can be worked by hand or with a mallet. These chisels have a 3” long high-carbon steel blade (bevel edge design) with a stout “tang” firmly embedded in a handsome hardwood handle. These are a great value in “everyday” chisels.

Takes a lot of time to flatten the back!!
I’ve purchased from Diefenbacher before. Always easy to do business with.The issue with this chisel is the entire back was extremely hollow with no contact anywhere at the cutting edge. That is an issue for Buck chisels.This is not me trying to flatten the entire back as some would believe they must do! I had to flatten enough of the back so it was flat at the cutting edge!It took me several hours to get the back flat enough so it would take an edge. The bevel edge took me a few minutes to polish and hone.Once done the chisel cuts very nicely and the handle is comfortable to use.
