Book is truly what it says
First off, I am not exaggerating this review. I am a born skeptic and I prefer realistic reviews the same as you. That being said...This book is amazing. In 45 minutes (over the course of 3 days) total time, I learned the entire alphabet and what the sounds are. I only retained about half that without rereading but I find that impressive. The author gives really easy to understand examples of HOW to remember the letters and vowel/cons. combinations. I anticipate that with very little work I can master the alphabet in a week's time doing it only on my lunch at work (after eating). At first, I was unsure how much I retained but I went to watch a youtube of a kpop video and not only could I read the title and artist but I could read some of the hangul flashing atop the screen. Takes practice of course but this book is exactly what it says.

Super useful, not to be used on it's own though
This book was very useful in finding ways to remember Korean letters. I bought this book along with another that was a "Korean for beginners", using them both together helped even more. This book helps you identify the letter, the other one helped me in pronunciation. Also, if you're looking to be learning similar to how I am (on your own, not in a classroom setting and not in Korea) I'd recommend getting a buddy who is Korean who can help you along the way. Also, this book was very fun and had some comical quirks in it. It definitely made learning the language enjoyable!All-in-all, this is a highly recommended book!

Easy to follow and fun learning book
I am trying to learn Korean on my own, and find this book very helpful. It teaches how to write Korean letters stroke by stroke, and is very easy to follow. It also has some great and fun ways to remember the letters, and does a great job at trying to explain Korean pronunciation with English examples.I took one star out because the title is a bit misleading - you don't really learn it in one hour. According to the book structure, you are supposed to learn in three lessons that are supposed to take 20 minutes each. That was not the case for me. With my memory, it took much longer, and quite a few repetitions to remember the letters.

This Was a Life Saver
First of all, I'm terrible at learning languages. I bought this book before going on a work assignment to South Korea for a couple months. However, I didn't even open the book until I'd been in Korea for three weeks - I was just SO intimidated by the language.I felt so lost, I finally gave it a shot and read this book during three 20-minute sessions on the subways in Seoul. The written world around me suddenly came alive! It's not like I instantly became fluent or anything, but at least I could read subway and bus signs, routes, and maps. It was definitely the most helpful, time-effective resource in being able to physically navigate South Korea on my own. I wish I'd read it earlier!

Fun to read!
I love reading this book! It's very fun, but so far, I still haven't got the hang of Hangul.However... anyone who is devoted, will see that this book is actually very helpful. And truthfully, it does take OVER an hour to learn, but you'll figure that out when you begin reading the book. ;)

Great as a guide but has annoying flaws
This is a very informative book. It covers all 40 characters in a concise manner. It works great as a guide. I did however have two problems with it.1) No audio comes with the book. The author does his best to describe the sounds you should make but on some of the characters the pronunciation completely falls apart. This forces you to go outside the book to look for audio pronunciation.2) The writing in the book is so small. Especially with the Hangul characters. It makes no sense because there will be 3/4 of the page blank and a very tiny character. This can make you miss how to write and say certain words. So bring a magnifying glass.Again, this is a great guide book but isn't complete on its own.

Very useful little book
I have been traveling to South Korea about twice a year for the last five years for short business trips. This little book is very helpful for starting to recognize and understand the Korean writing system. Such a book is essential since there are very few signs using the Latin alphabet in Korea. Also its small size and format makes it easy to throw in my briefcase for my next trip and do a quick review during the flight. I highly recommend it.

Was this made at FedEx Office?
Hangul is a pretty approachable system. The characters are common sense, and there aren't a ton of them to have to memorize. The book's title is its undoing: you can learn Hangul in an hour and no matter how good Amazon's shipping is, you will learn the characters way before this book gets to you. I had gone online and downloaded/bookmarked great Korean resources (for free) far before this "book" arrived. Speaking of the "book"... the product quality is so low tier! I didn't even want to open it. It was like somebody was sneaking into the office after hours to print this book out. I suppose that encourages the use of pencil to write the characters, but I'm not trying to learn how to scribble Korean, I'm trying to absorb the characters. The author does attempt to describe how the characters are pronounced, but it does not hold a candle to hearing the pronounciation with your ears. I found apps that sound out the characters and they didn't cost a dime. Even the one I paid for was cheaper than this. Skip it
