One of the best sources out there
Gawain's work may be the best audiobook you can listen to for getting started with creative visualization. I had been using the technique Gawain describes for several months before I picked up this audio book. Based on the evolution and refinement of my own personal technique, I found hers to be totally "spot on". I am currently using it to work on a health issue that has plagued me for years and am having phenomenal success with it. My level of success is so great that it makes me wonder about the level of success that can be achieved with non-health related issues (i.e. are there any limitations to the use of this technique?...to which I'm sure Gawain would reply "no").The technique itself does not require volumes to describe. It is actually quite simple and one can only become a master of it through practice, practice and more practice. Gawain does round out her practical description with some supportive methods that may sound "new age"-like but are definitely important to its efficacy. The most important supportive technique would probably be "affirmations" - verbal mantras that are positive and supporting. If this book was only about creative visualization, it would be fairly short. As such, Gawain moves on to other, related techniques of affirmation and meditation. She also provides much of the metaphysical background she believes to be the supporting infrastructure to creative visualization. Much of this will sound extremely "new agey" to the average listener. But there is a practical technique here which can be used with great success and one does not have to agree with or even accept the metaphysical material she presents along with it. She even mentions this in the book. What I find so striking is that not only am I NOT a believer in any metaphysical or "new age" philosophy but my own belief system seems quite antithetical to the description of the "universe" Gawain proposes. A major part of Gawain's view of our reality might be summarized with the following statement: the universe is infinitely bountiful and full of perfect love and people are the purest expression of that perfection. My own "philosophy" might be summarized by stating that the universe sucks and people are the embodiment of everything that is wrong with it. Okay, maybe that's a little harsh. Regardless, the fact that I can use this technique with success is a testament to its practicality and simple effectiveness. Of course, Gawain might say that my "negative" beliefs are purely superficial and not representative of how I truly feel. Still, my ignoring of much of the metaphysical presented here shows how effective creative visualization can be regardless of one's beliefs. As evidenced by the one-star reviews here, there are people who simply can not "connect" with this technique. This is, I would assume, because the technique (as described), as well as most of the book has a very "new age" sound to it. For some, the practicality of creative visualization gets lost in metaphysical "mumbo jumbo." Perhaps a more popular approach to the technique would be titled "Creative Visualization and Your Stock Portfolio - Visualizing and Realizing 10-Baggers." But if people don't believe in the power of the mind and the power of our subconscious to dictate our experience in this life then why are they even listening to this book? That makes no sense at all! For those who are trapped in their ego, who do not subscribe to the premise that one's entire reality is painted by the endlessly looping program known as the subconscious and who never have experienced success with the technique, how do you convince them of its power? Unfortunately, I don't think you can. At some point, you have to realize that you're being "played" by your subconscious and you want the self-defeating game to end.

One of the very best books ever written on using visualization and meditation techniques.
Over the last 70 years I have read countless books on various forms of energy healing and when I saw this fantastic 176 page hardcover 25th anniversary edition book (Creative Visualization: Use the power of your imagination to create what you want in your life by Shakti Gawain) for a bargain price on Amazon I decided I had to have it.I found this book to be one of the very best volumes on the market for anyone seeking an easy and effective way to heal themselves in body, mind and spirit. Unlike other kinds of self-improvement type books where they take half the book just to introduce you to the methods and techniques used, this book begins almost immediately showing how visualization techniques combined with relaxation methods can help you.One of the many advantages of this visualization method is that it can easily be used with almost any type of energy and meditation system you may also be practicing. This wonderful book is organized into five easy to follow parts. Part one covers the basics of creative visualization explaining the basics of creative visualization. Part two goes into how to use this method. Part three deals with meditations and affirmations. Part four focuses on special techniques to make your visualizations more effective and the final section shows how to live creatively. If you are really into energy and mind improvement this is one book you should have in your personal library as a reference source. The simple affirmations alone are worth the price of this book and I love this book so much I intend to read other books by this author.Rating: 5 Stars. Joseph J. Truncale (Author: Martial Art and Warrior Haiku and Senryu)

This is my 4th copy!!!
This book was given to me as a last minute gift, she never read it before giving it to me (book came from a book of the month club and ahe was low on funds at the time). The book sat on my shelf for about 3 years then one day , bored, as I browsed my shelf, I picked this one up and started reading it. It so happened that I was in a transitional point in my life, my co-workers and I were we'll aware of an imminent layoff. I read this book and was intrigued and thought: what have I got to lose by trying it out? I started practicing the VERY SIMPLE steps of creative visualization (first thing in the morning and right before I fell asleep at night). Long story short I got the job I was wanting more than anything and with 2WAY more pay than I expected. Years later, in my forties, I was sick of all the losers I had been in relationships with and remembered about this book but couldn't find it so I bought another one for a refresher course and now 11 years later I am happily married to the man of my dreams, living comfortably in Hawaii. Yes of course we have our ups & downs but I got what I creatively wished for: Tall, good looking, makes over 6 figures, doesn't smoke, doesn't drink. (Even though I do occasionally and he doesn't mind!), is not a religious fanatic and loves to buy me jewelry. What I forgot to creatively visualize was that he be a democrat (he's a republican) but oh we'll, we just don't talk about politics on our house! I have since had friends and relatives that were in dire need of direction and loaned or have this book to them and hopefully it has inspired them too. I just asked my 20 year old nephew (who needs guidance) to read it and am hoping he'll have an open mind. IT COULD CHANGE HIS WHOLE LIFE! Sorry for the long story, but I HIGHLY RECOMMEND this book if you truly want to be happy and successful in your life!!!

The book that started the revolution
This book started it all. Prior to this book Visualization was a part of Law of attraction school. But Creative Visualization is a school in itself. And this particular edition gives a feel of the idea that the new edition does not. A friend in trouble took this edition from me a few years ago. Now I just can't find it anywhere. Sellers selling it in used section are sending torn and stained copies. Sad.

Lovely book
The same as in other reviews, I would say that this book is fantastic. I read a creative visualisation book many years ago that I liked and I think this might be the updated one. It is so informative, if you are interested in visualisation/meditation and spiritual matters, this is the book for you. It is easy to read and understand and the exercises are wonderful. I have gained a lot from reading this book. It is not a book that I would read from cover to cover in a couple of hits, but I go back to it when I am in the right mood and choose which chapters are relevant. I would highly recommend this.
