When Godly People Do Ungodly Things - Bible Study Book: Arming Yourself in the Age of Seduction

This book was a pleasant surprise. The author goes into detail as to how godly people are seduced by the devil. He works to catch people off guard by luring them with unexpected, well disguised traps. The targets are people who are wholeheartedly devoted to Christ. They had warning signs while they were still walking faithful to God but rationalized it away. The enemy gets to our hearts through hidden spots of vulnerability in our minds. Another excellent point was that God allows seduction in the life of a believer with wholehearted devotion because something needs sifting. The greatest thing that helps us abstain from evil is to be happy in our faith, otherwise other sources of joy become tools for seduction.Finally the last point I want to highlight is the disastrous threesome, impulsiveness, impatience and poor discernment. We are told to prove all things which takes time, but if we can’t wait we could end up moving on something that looks good but in actuality is not good. Excellent book, very relatable, some chapters left me wanting more.

I was a bit skeptical when I started this. I had 2 reasons for my skepticism... one, I wasn't totally sure that I believed in Satan. Sure, I believe in evil and I believe the Bible, but I was never sure than Satan wasn't a metaphorical being or symbol for evil. Second, I was pretty confident that I love God, and have a solid relationship with Christ and the Holy Spirit, and would spot seduction a mile away.So, week 1 intro came along. I took my book along to my group study and we watched the dvd, and after the intro, there were a lot of wide eyes. You see, I think we all thought we'd simply be talking about the things that could happen to us in the future, maybe things that other people did, and we'd happily watch for them and avoid them. We should have known better! This was going to get deep.That week, I hit a personal issue. I was being bombarded by thoughts, "You really don't need to do this course." "There's nothing you'll learn from this." "You really don't have time!"Well, I know enough to know that this was NOT the Holy Spirit telling me to stay away from a Bible study! If anyone was putting doubt in my mind, it had to be the enemy - or at least my own fears - so that was enough to tell me I had to do it.Many people in my group experienced similar resistance - not finding time to do the daily study, or skipping a week here and there. It's not an easy course if you really get deep & real with it, but about halfway through, I started to really appreciate it more - not just from the point of view of protecting myself against seduction - but also in my prayers & my understanding of blamelessness, what are my defenses, and how even the most devoted Christ-follower can be tripped and tricked, or how they may even be the biggest targets.

I not only read paranormal but love true faithful and christian stories! This one is the best one I've read on the subject! Beth talks about how easy it is for christians to get pulled into sin and backslide unless you have the full armour of God/Jesus! She is so right on!! It can happen but the good news is you can fight it by staying in the faith and not getting caught off guard. Beth gives wonderful examples how to avoid pitfalls and how evil can creep back into christians lives. The more faithful you are the more you will be attacked.Some religious friends came to my aid with prayers, rosaries, and enlightment which I'm truly grateful! God sends people into your life for a reason. God has a plan for you. This book will help you along lifes pathway and to stay on that spiritual path.Thank you Beth for this wonderful book! I bought this book thinking from the title that it would be about godly people doing ungodly things to others. It is written to Christians who have been caught up in some type of sin. Beth Moore does not pretend to be some kind of Saint but writes from the perspective of who who has strayed, and found her way back to God and full forgiveness. I never give five stars, but this one deserves it. I highly recommend it!

I just went through a very difficult trial where I made some very, very ungodly decisions. This book in no way made me feel like I had an "excuse" for my actions, but it definitely let me know that Satan was at the root of my problem. I was, as Beth puts it, HAD. This book hit so close to home it had me shaking when I read it. She does an excellent job of letting you know what happened, what God has to say about it, what God has to say about YOU, and how to go about "fixing" what went wrong. She focuses a lot on sexual types of ungodly things that people do, but it is real easy to relate any life experience to her process for finding restoration.If you have ever done ungodly things that leave you wondering "How did I get here?" or "What was I thinking?!?" then this book is for you!

Beth Moore does not disappoint when it comes to transparency in sharing her own testimony and application of God's Word. We are using this in our ladies' Sunday School class and it is prompting great discussion and sharing as we study what God says about our sin. This study focuses on sins of seduction and gives not only classic warning signs but also hope for those caught in the web of sin. The basic truth is clearly spelled out in this book: Greater is He who is in you than he who is in the world. By God's power only can we escape the hold of sin in our lives and return to the close walk with God He desires. My only disappointment in the book is the emphasis on sexual sin, almost to the exclusion of other sins of seduction which are very common. If the reader keeps in mind the application of these Truth principles to all sins of seduction, the book will be valuable to every believer.

I loved this book! I had been experiencing pain and destruction as the result of sin in my life and was shocked and struggling to come to terms with and understand why this was happening. My eyes and heart were opened, and I have never felt an outpouring of grace like I did when I read this book.Despite being a Christian for over 10 years, this book introduced me to completely new concepts and refreshed my soul, invoking deep sorrow and the will to repent as well as great joy and renewed appreciation for God. I was affected on a deep level, and it has helped me do the work necessary to restore my life, though it hasn't been an easy journey.I would recommend this book to every follower of Jesus.

Having been in full time ministry for several years, it has always shocked me when I, or others, do sinful things. Having been brought up to believe that a true Christian would not be capable of sinning to such an extent that they ruin their own life, and the lives of others around them, I found this book to be liberating and encouraging, all whilst providing a clear warning and advice on how to avoid falling into the same traps of the devil that he has ensnared others with.Beth Moore, a victim at one time to these traps herself, writes with wisdom and experience, not only of hers but of many other Godly people who have told their story. Moore divides the book into three sections: a warning against the reality of temptation, advice on how to safeguard yourself, and then a section on how people can be restored to a healthy relationship with God.As someone who ministers to others as well as seeking to live a life that pleases God, I have benefited personally from Moore's writing, and would encourage all Christians, particularly those in full time service, to read this.

Beth Moore at her best. She will take you through a journey in her inimitable way and show you how to return to the light of redemption. A Christian's "must read"
