Horse Owner's Veterinary Handbook

This is one of the best veterinary books I have read so far. There is so much information and it’s very in-depth. I am on the pre-vet track so it is nice to find / have a book that has so much info and actually explains the science behind everything rather than just another “general horse care” book.

I just received the book, so I'm rating the condition of the book and not the material. Book arrived damaged, on the hardcover, and several pages are folded.

Great go to book for nearly every aspect of horse health. It can clear up contradictory information that you may come across on the Internet. It also has a great list of over-the-counter medications recommended for your equine emergency kit.

I just got this book…oh my! I’m excited to read all the sections. It is written so that anyone, on any level, of horse ownership can understand. The explanation of each section is great. And I’ve only skimmed through the first chapter. Do yourself and your horse a favor and buy this book! Ride on ❤️Update: I have started reading different sections of this book. They have left nothing out. They direct you where to go to read different information in different parts of the book. Amazing job! Love it more.

Didn't know how detailed this was!! I'm impressed with how much they included, deffinately a must have for the curious horse owner that wants to know more about the vet side.

A horse can die as fast as a kitten. Shocking news for every first time horse owner who finds a dead horse in a stall or backyard and THEN calls the vet. This wonderful book teaches you how to take a pulse, analyze colic, worm, stand a foundering horse in a cold brook, and what medications to have on hand so your vet can reach the horse before it is too late. This is not a "treat it yourself" book. It makes you a knowledgeable owner so that when calling a vet, you have the medications he suggests ready to administer while he is on his way. That "golden hour" exists for horses just as much as it does for humans. There are only a handful of medications for horses, but knowing when to give them and why, makes you an informed horse owner. KNOW YOUR HORSE if you want to keep him alive. Own and read this book before you even BUY a horse. If I ever wrote a book, it would be called "Horses are not Dogs." They think differently are herd animals, etc. etc. Know what you are getting into before you unintentionally kill your first horse. Buy and read this book!

I bought this item used and when I received it, it was like-new so I'm pleased with that. The book itself covers just about everything involving equine health and disease (so many new things come up it's bound to be outdated someday, but not now). I couldn't find "osselets" on the inside-cover index but it is addressed, and the authors speak in plain language which is very helpful. I do recommend this book for horse owners, especially new ones.

I am a senior in college studying Equine Science. This book was recommended by my professor, who is also an equine vet, to be a great resource. Although it wasn't required for the class, I took a chance and bought it. Not only has it help me with that one class, but I use it all the time for my other classes! It is organized so nicely, has so much practical information, it doesn't have overwhelming vocabulary, and it's not too hard to read. I love this book and it has so much useful information.

This book has been around for years, it was recommended to me by other equestrians. It is full of helpful information that will assist you in an emergency situation, understand signs & symptoms of common ailments. I love this book! So happy I bought it!

This is a fantastic book with tons of info. I highly recommend anyone contemplating buying this book to go for it, you won’t regret it.

It well organized, practical and useful. However, if you will have a kindle edition, there is one disadvantage; tables in this book is REALLY heard to read. Even if you enlarge those tables, probably because of the low resolution, they are barely readable. And so, it's better to have paper edition.
